Xiaomi Civi 2 review: The feel and appearance are still excellent, and the front camera system has been greatly upgraded

Xiaomi Civi 2 still performs well in terms of appearance, and the biggest upgrade is in front photography. Not only the upgrade of hardware configuration, but also the upgrade of software algorithm is huge. Other aspects are also slightly upgraded, but there is a gap compared to the upgrade of front photography. In short, this smartphone is still a very good choice for women who like to take selfies.

Appearance Design & Display

In terms of appearance design, the surface of Xiaomi Civi 2 still uses a nano-texture engraving process. The first-generation Xiaomi Civi uses the velvet AG process, and there is no doubt that Xiaomi Civi 2 performs better than the first-generation.

The rear camera adopts the Deco+ angel ring design, which is a big change compared to Xiaomi Civi. In terms of weight, the Xiaomi Civi 2 is 171g, which is a bit heavier than the Xiaomi Civi’s 166g. The thickness of 7.23mm is also thicker than the 6.98mm of the previous generation, but the actual experience is not very different, and it is still very light in the hand.

In terms of screen, Xiaomi Civi 2 is 6.55-inch in size like Xiaomi Civi. Xiaomi Civi 2 adopts a hyperboloid 58° flexible screen with 120Hz refresh rate and 240Hz touch sampling rate. The brightness is 800nits and supports 1920Hz high frequency PWM adjustment. The overall quality of the screen is similar to that of Xiaomi Civi, and the performance is acceptable.

Processor & Battery Life

The processor is a big upgrade. Xiaomi Civi 2 uses the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 mobile platform. In fact, as a smartphone that focuses on the offline market and female user groups, this series will not use the flagship SOC in terms of processors. The Snapdragon 7 series processors are sufficient to meet the needs of this user group, and are easier to control in terms of power consumption, so that the overall experience can be better improved. For the current mainstream mobile games such as “Genshin Impact”, “Honor of King” and “Game For Peace”, they can also run smoothly in high-definition.

In terms of battery life, Xiaomi Civi 2 uses the same 4500mAh battery as Xiaomi Civi. It’s just that the material is upgraded to the same lithium cobalt oxide battery as Xiaomi 12S. The charging power has been upgraded from 55W to 67W, the charging speed has been improved again, and the charging time can be reduced by about 20 minutes.

Photography

Photography is the biggest upgrade of Xiaomi Civi 2, which is also related to its positioning. Especially in the front camera, Xiaomi Civi 2 uses two 32MP cameras. A main camera and an ultra-wide-angle lens with multi-color temperature and four soft lights, make the overall layout of the front camera module look a bit like the iPhone 14 Pro.

In terms of improving the front camera module, Xiaomi has not just added a camera. It has also specially developed “bionic eyes” that can imitate the distance measurement of the human eye to realize the blurring of portraits, and “ultra-clear dual eyes” that can obtain 256 layers of depth information and calculate parallax. I have to say that the Xiaomi Civi 2 has done a lot of work in front-facing photography.

In terms of rear camera module, Xiaomi Civi 2 uses 50MP Sony IMX766, 20MP ultra-wide angle and a macro lens. Compared with Xiaomi Civi, there is no obvious improvement. Then compare the improvement of the front camera, the configuration of the rear camera can only be regarded as quite satisfactory. This also fully reflects the positioning of Xiaomi Civi 2: female users who like to take selfies.
