The appearance design of SONY INZONE Buds is very cool and has an e-sports style. The earbuds is equipped with an 8.4mm X driver unit with the same specifications as Sony WF-1000XM5, providing low distortion and clearer sound quality. They uses Sony L1 low-power processor and supports 2.4GHz wireless connection with a delay as latency as 30ms. The single battery life is about 12 hours.

Sony INZONE Buds supports 360 game spatial sound effects and can virtually output sound into 7.1 channels, bringing more accurate soundstage positioning and a more immersive experience. New spatial sound personalization functions, including soundstage personalization and tone personalization, provide a spatial audio listening experience that is more suitable for you. INZONE Buds also uses dual noise sensor technology, supports active noise cancellation function and 20 levels of adjustable ambient sound. Equipped with deep neural network learning (DNN) technology, it supports AI call noise cancellation, and game voice calls make the voice clearer.

01/ SONY INZONE Buds Charging Case Teardown

Disassemble the charging case shell and take out the charging bin structure.

The bottom structure of the charging bin secures the motherboard and battery through brackets. The battery is covered with sponge pad protection.

Remove the screws, unhook the connectors, and remove the motherboard and battery unit.

The bracket structure under the motherboard is fixed with screws and charging bin.

Remove the bracket and take out the small plate fixed at the bottom of the charging bin.

The bottom structure of the charging bin is equipped with four magnets for fixing earbuds, adapters and charging case covers.

The circuit on one side of the small board, solder the small board wires for charging the earbud.

The circuit on the other side of the small board is connected to the mainboard FPC through a connector.

TI BQ25618 charging IC integrates switching charging, synchronous boost converter and voltage protection functions. It supports 22V withstand voltage and can reduce battery leakage to 6uA in transport mode, which is used to charge the built-in lithium battery and earbuds.

The NXP K32 L2B series microcontroller has a built-in ARM Cortex-M0 core and is used to implement functions such as charge and discharge module management, battery power management, indicator light control, and headset communication.

Tear off the outer label and make sure the information on the battery core is consistent with the outer label.

02/ SONY INZONE Buds Earphones Teardown

Remove the back cover of the headphones. There are bluetooth antennas and touch detection electrodes printed on the inside of the cover.

The internal structure of the cavity is set to connect the motherboard and FPC through the BTB connector.

Take out the motherboard, which is protected by a shielding cover.

Remove the shielding cover and the circuit on one side of the motherboard.

The MEMS microphone of Laser Engraving M3 37612 is used for voice calls and active noise cancellation function.

The internal structure of the middle frame of the earbud is fixed with a battery, which is connected to the FPC, an internal component of the earbud cavity, through a BTB connector.

Open the connector, remove the middle frame, and take out the battery and FPC.

The internal structure of the middle frame is equipped with magnets and charging cases at the end for adsorption and fixation.

The earbud is equipped with a steel-shell button battery. The negative electrode is screen-printed with parameter information. Model: Z55FH, nominal voltage: 3.85V, capacity: 0.366Wh, from ZeniPower.

Take out the speaker and FPC, and set the microphone at the end of the FPC.

On the front of the 8.4mm X driver unit, the diaphragm is protected by a plastic cover, and the sound hole is protected by a wire mesh.

One end of the speaker FPC is provided with a BTB connector to connect to the battery FPC.

The other end of the FPC is equipped with an in-ear detection sensor and a microphone.

Laser-engraved M3 37696 MEMS microphone is used to pick up sound from inside the ear canal. The two microphones work together to provide more accurate active noise cancellation and clearer voice call effects.

Infrared distance sensor is used for the in-ear detection function, which automatically pauses music playback when the earbuds are taken off, and automatically resumes playback when the earbuds are put on.


03/ Dongle Teardown

Disassemble the dongle casing and take out the internal motherboard.

The circuit on one side of the motherboard is dongle, and the wireless SoC is protected by a shield.

Remove the shielding cover and see the wireless module circuit below. AIROHA AB1565D bluetooth audio SoC. The AB1565x series is Airoha’s advanced bluetooth audio solution, supporting Bluetooth 5.3 and LE audio. The latest multi-point for TWS can connect laptops and mobile phones at the same time. Provides ultra-low power consumption and ultra-low latency, with average power consumption up to ~4.x mA. AB1565x also has stable bluetooth connection, clear sound quality and Hybrid ANC function.

The precision wound inductor on the periphery of the bluetooth audio SoC supplies power to the internal circuit.

04/ Summary

SONY INZONE Buds charging case has a compact design and accommodates earbuds and dongle inside. The earbuds is treated with gloss + matte technology, which is highly textured and recognizable. The new in-ear structure designed based on long-term wearing requirements reduces contact with the ears. Equipped with four sizes of eartips, it provides a personalized and comfortable wearing experience.

The charging case has a built-in VDL 450mAh rechargeable lithium-ion battery pack. Use the TI BQ25618 charging IC, which integrates switching charging, synchronous boost converter and voltage protection functions – used to charge lithium battery and earbuds. The NXP K32 L2B series microcontroller is used to control the charging case.

The earbud is equipped with a ZeniPower 0.366Wh steel shell button battery, an 8.4mm X driver unit and two MEMS microphones. An infrared distance sensor is used for in-ear detection function. Using Sony L1 low-power processor for wireless connection and audio data processing. The internal wireless module of the dongle uses AIROHA AB1565D bluetooth audio SoC, which is used for 2.4G wireless communication with earbuds and support LE audio audio technology.
