OnePlus Ace 2V review: Ultra-narrow bezel screen brings flagship phone quality

In early February this year, OnePlus released the OnePlus Ace 2. For this phone, some OnePlus users should be surprised that the screen adopts a curved screen design – does its appearance mean that OnePlus has abandoned the straight screen phone? Now the emergence of OnePlus Ace 2V can dispel the doubts of straight screen lovers. Next, let’s take a look at the highlights of Ace 2V.

Appearance Design and Display

The border of OnePlus Ace 2V is very narrow, the black border is only 1.46mm, and the front presents a visual perception close to four equilateral sides. In the current straight-screen mobile phones, the performance of this straight-screen quality is really impressive.

OnePlus Ace 2V uses a 6.74″ AMOLED straight screen, supports 120Hz refresh rate, and the resolution is 2772*1240. The resolution of 1.5K is better than the display effect of 1080P OLED screen, and it is also more advantage than 2K OLED screen in terms of energy consumption. Therefore, the use of this screen also takes into account the display effect and battery life performance. It is just that the area where the screen fingerprint is unlocked is still very close to the bottom area, and it may be a short-focus fingerprint unlocking solution.

Both sides of the mobile phone frame have been designed with CNC chamfering, and there will be no feeling of cutting hands. There is also no plastic middle frame to reduce weight and configuration, and the metal texture also improves the quality of Ace 2V. The mobile phone weighs only 191g and has a thickness of 8.15mm. The middle frames on both sides are equipped with physical buttons, the left side is the volume button, and the right side is the mute/vibration three-stage button and the power button.

The back of the phone is made of glass, with the OnePlus logo in the middle. This review is the cyan version, which is very smooth to the touch, but the disadvantage is that it is easy to be stained with fingerprints.

Performance Configuration and Game Testing

The performance configuration of OnePlus Ace 2V is Dimensity 9000 CPU+LPDDR5X+UFS 3.1. AnTuTu’s test score is 1027712, especially the CPU score, surpassing 80% of the models on the market. The GeekBench 6 single-core score is 1164, and the multi-core score is 3765. 3D Mark’s 20-round Wild Life Extreme Stress Test stability performance is 67%.

It is worth mentioning that OnePlus Ace 2V starts with a storage configuration of 12GB+256GB, and provides storage versions of 16GB+256GB and 16GB+512GB.

OnePlus Ace 2V mainly promotes the game frame stabilization technology 2.0 in terms of game experience. Let’s take a look at the difference between the experience after turning off the frame stabilization mode and turning on the frame stabilization mode. After 30 minutes of “Genshin Impact” with the e-sports mode turned on on the mobile phone, and the frame stabilization mode turned off, the average frame rate is 54.91 frames, and there will be a few seconds of jank in scenes with many monsters. After turning on the frame stabilization mode, the average frame rate was 56.90 frames, but there was no frame loss or jank phenomenon.

After the frame stabilization function is turned on, the heat of the mobile phone is indeed noticeable. The highest temperature on the front of the phone reached 50.3°C, and the highest temperature in the middle frame area also reached 47.9°C.

In addition, no matter whether the frame stabilization function is turned on or not, the problem of automatically reducing the screen brightness will appear when the image quality special effects are fully turned on. Obviously, there is still a lot of room for optimization in the game experience of “Genshin Impact”.

Photography and Battery Life

In terms of camera configuration, the OnePlus Ace 2V’s rear triple camera is a double-ring design. The main camera is located in the black ring above and can take 64-megapixel pictures. The ultra-wide-angle camera and the macro camera are located in the black circle below, which are 8MP and 2MP.

The color of the picture taken by the main camera of OnePlus Ace 2V is relatively dull, and the obvious ghosting phenomenon can be seen in the night shooting test. In addition, the waiting time for night shooting seems to be longer than that of OnePlus Ace 2, and the color cast of the light will also appear at the same shooting angle. The performance of this main camera obviously needs to be improved, otherwise it will make people feel that OnePlus’ photography optimization on the MediaTek platform is not as good as its competitors.

In terms of battery life, OnePlus Ace 2V is equipped with an 80W charger, which is slightly slower than the 100W fast charge of OnePlus Ace 2. However, 80W wired fast charging is enough to meet daily charging needs, and the mobile phone is equipped with a 5000mAh battery, so there is no need to worry too much about the battery life of the mobile phone.

In the actual test, OnePlus Ace 2V can charge more than 40% of the power of the mobile phone in 10 minutes, and it can be fully charged in 35 minutes. Infrared remote control has also been added to the phone – this is the second OnePlus phone to support infrared remote control.
