    Sony WF-C500 is an entry-level product of Sony, which is light, comfortable and stylish to wear. At the same time, the Sony classic tuning is provided at a more favorable price, which provides another choice for more users who like the style of Sony music.

    Sony WF-C500 true wireless earbuds has a small and light volume in appearance design, and many styles of fashion trend color matching. The capsule-shaped compact charging case uses a translucent design, and the bean-shaped in-ear headphones are round and without edges. With an ergonomic surface design, it provides a comfortable and stable wearing experience.

    In terms of functional configuration, the Sony WF-C500 is equipped with a new 5.8mm neodymium magnet drive unit, and uses a digital sound enhancement engine to compensate for the music sampling rate to reduce high-frequency loss. Sony’s classic tuning solution provides the good sound quality you want to hear, supports custom equalization, and has 8 built-in preset tunings. In other respects, it supports Bluetooth 5.0, IPX4 waterproof, supports fast charging, and has an overall battery life of 10+10h.

    The Sony products teardown by 52audio include: Sony WF-1000XM4, Sony WF-XB700, Sony WF-H800, Sony WF-SP900, Sony XPERIA Ear Duo open true wireless earphones and others. Let’s take a look at the detailed dismantling report of this product.


    |1. Sony WF-C500 Charging case teardown

    Through unpacking, we learned about the overall design of the Sony WF-C500 true wireless earbuds, as well as the position of the internal part of the structure through the opening position. Let’s enter the disassembly part on this basis to see the detailed internal structure configuration information .

    Tear off the anti-skid pad, and there are fixing screws hidden underneath.

    The bottom shell can be removed by removing the screws.

    The inside structure of the charging case shell, the battery position is provided with a buffer pad for protection.

    The bottom structure of the charging case cockpit, the main components are fixed on the bracket, and the bracket is fixed with the shell by screws.

    The charging case has built-in rechargeable lithium-ion battery label information, model: 621733, capacity: 300mAh/1.11Wh, nominal voltage: 3.7V, charging limit voltage 4.2V, from Springpower Technology (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd.

    The silk-screen information on the battery cell is consistent with the external label.

    The battery is equipped with a circuit protection board, which is protected by insulating tape.

    Remove the screws and take off the bracket.

    The main board is fixed on the bracket by a buckle.

    Unlock the buckle to remove the motherboard and support structure.

    The boost IC of the silk screen EB5 317, on the right is the boost inductor, which is used to boost the charging case battery to charge the earphones.

    SGMicro SGM4064, an overvoltage protection IC with front-end protection for lithium battery chargers, can detect battery voltage while protecting the input overvoltage. When the battery is overcharged, the output will be turned off to ensure safety during charging.

    ABOV MC96F8216S MCU is an advanced CMOS 8-bit microcontroller with 16KB flash memory, with 16 KB flash memory, 256 bytes RAM, 512 bytes XRAM, 8/16-bit timer/counter, 12-bit ADC, etc., and supports power saving mode In order to reduce power consumption, it is used to control the whole charging case.


    |2. Sony WF-C500 earbuds teardown

    Enter the disassembly part of the earphone and pry open the earphone cavity along the moulding line.

    In the internal structure of the rear cavity, the black cover is the function button buffer structure, and the bluetooth antenna is arranged under it, which is connected to the main board through metal contacts.

    The microphone has an opening and is sealed with a double-sided adhesive foam pad to improve the radio performance, and a dust-proof net to prevent foreign objects from entering.

    The bluetooth antenna is connected to the metal contacts of the motherboard.

    The main board in the front cavity is fixed on the transparent plastic bracket by buckles and screws.

    The battery unit is located inside the bracket, which plays a very good protective role. The metal copper pillar for charging/communication of the earphone is connected to the main board through a metal dome.

    Take out the stent and the internal structure of the cavity.

    The pressure relief hole inside the front cavity is protected by a dust-proof net.

    The earphone magnet used to adsorb the charging case is covered with a sponge pad.

    The earphone speaker is fixed by a lot of glue.

    After actual measurement, the speaker size is about 5.8mm.

    Metal contacts on the motherboard for connecting the bluetooth antenna.

    The jog buttons on the main board can control various functions by clicking, double-clicking, triple-clicking, and long-pressing.

    Fix the battery unit on the back of the bracket.

    Remove the solder joints of the battery’s positive and negative poles on the motherboard, and remove the motherboard from the bracket.

    Remove the battery from the holder. The earphone uses a soft-pack button battery, model: SP1254, rated capacity: 0.27Wh, voltage 3.85V, also from Springpower Technology.

    Silkscreen A11 3U IC.

    The integrated battery protection chip of the silk screen 651DFAM1.

    Metal dome used to connect the metal copper pillars for charging and communication.

    Laser carving JCKH A104’s MEMS microphone is used for voice call pickup.

    Silk screen C1DA IC.

    AIROHA AB1562M bluetooth audio SoC, supports bluetooth 5.2 specification, has ultra-low power consumption, stable bluetooth connection and Passthrough function, and also supports three-microphone noise reduction. With Airoha noise reduction algorithm, it can effectively reduce wind noise and improve call quality.

    According to 52audio, bluetooth headsets on the market including Sony, Zepp Health Corporation, 1MORE, realme, FIIL, Edifier, Plantronics, earsopen and other brands have adopted Airoha solutions.

    |3. Summary

    Sony WF-C500 true wireless earphones are very characteristic in appearance design. The charging case is made of translucent materials. The earphones continue the Sony bean-shaped in-ear design and have been greatly reduced in size. The earphone adopts a matte texture surface, the look is exquisite and elegant, with a light volume and trendy color matching, it is fashionable and comfortable to wear.

    The internal structural components are all fixed by brackets, and the overall appearance is clean, tidy and orderly. The charging case uses Type-C interface input power, built-in Springpower Technology 300mAh lithium-ion battery, charged by SGMICRO SGM41562A charging IC, SGMICRO SGM4064 chip provides overvoltage protection, and ABOV MC96F8216S microcontroller is used for overall charging case control.

    The Sony WF-C500 earbuds uses a 5.8mm dynamic driver and a 0.27Wh soft-pack button battery also from Springpower Technology. The main control chip on the motherboard is AIROHA AB1562M bluetooth audio SoC, which supports bluetooth 5.2, has ultra-low power consumption, stable bluetooth connection and Passthrough function, and a MEMS microphone for voice call pickup.
