Moondrop Pill review: The cure for your ears?

The Moondrop Pill is a new clip-on earphones launched by Moondrop, quickly becoming a market standout thanks to its unique design, impressive sound quality, and competitive price. Equipped with Bluetooth 6.0, a 13mm dynamic driver, and multiple patented technologies, it offers a fresh option for sports enthusiasts.

    Appearance Design & Comfortable Fit

The charging case lives up to its name – “Pill” – resembling an oversized capsule. It features a twist-to-open mechanism, similar to the Nothing Ear (Stick), and adopts a transparent shell design. There is a USB-C port and an LED indicator at the bottom of the case.

Each Moondrop Pill earphone weighs just 5.1g, connected by a flexible memory C-bridge made of titanium alloy and TPU. Both the front and back sections of the earphone use a matte plastic finish.

The front part is a sphere, with one of the largest sound outlets among clip-on earphones, while the back retains an air vent structure. With an IPX4 rating, these earphones resist sweat and rain, making them durable for workouts.

There is a design that is the same as the SoundPeats POP Clip – the self-adaptive left-right audio channels in the charging case.

Overall, the Moondrop Pill offers the same stable, lightweight fit as most clip-on earphones, staying secure even during intense movement.

Connection & App Support & Controls

The earphones use a Bluetooth 6.0 chip (the first BT6.0 earbuds I’ve reviewed) and support SBC and AAC codecs. The Moondrop Pill’s bluetooth connection is very stable and can still provide a reliable connection when it is more than ten meters away from the device without any connection or sound interruption.

Also, Moondrop Pill supports multipoint connection, meaning you can connect it to two devices at the same time and switch between them when you receive a call, or when you pause on one device, and play on the other.

The Moondrop Link App (for iOS and Android) offers firmware updates, displays the battery status of the earbuds, gain adjustment, bass options (Standard/Bass+/Bass-), touch controls settings, DSP/EQ tuning (frequency/Q-value), and activates dual-device connection.

The Moondrop Pill is operated by the touch recognition of the bigger part, which supports double-tap to play/pause, triple-tap to switch songs, and quadruple-tap to switch game/music mode. The feedback is quite clear.

Calls & Battery Life & Gaming Mode

Moondrop emphasized the optimization of ENC call noise reduction this time. Its actual call reception performance is very good. The volume is high and it sounds clear and natural. In outdoor environments, the clarity of calls is still very good. The impact of wind noise on calls is well controlled.

The Moondrop Pill support 55ms low-latency gaming mode. Playing games and watching videos is no problem – they works without issues on both Android and iPhone with perfect sound and picture sync.

The battery capacity of the charging case is 300mAh and the earphone is 40mAh. The single battery life is up to 8 hours and up to 28 hours in total. The case does not support wireless charging.

    Sound Description & Sound Modes

Bass: The bass quantity is moderate, and the thickness and fullness are not very high. The bass extension and elasticity are good. The sub-bass quantity is small. The decay speed is balanced, and the reverberation is not much.

Mids: The vocals are slightly forward, with no strong bias toward male or female voices. Retains some graininess without sacrificing smoothness. The minimal coloration, with controlled sibilance and noticeable polish. The transparent of the vocal is relatively high, and it will be a little bright.

Highs: Moderate brightness with strong energy (especially when worn incorrectly). The extension of the ultra-highs is very good. The roll-off is not too fast, just a little early.

Instruments: Most instruments are balanced between texture and line, only some bass instruments (bass and kick drum) may sound slightly thin. Good separation between vocals and instruments. The dynamics are moderate, with excellent transient response and detail retrieval.

Bass+ Mode: It sounds like it will significantly increase the presence of the mid-bass. The bass quantity will not change much, but the fullness and presence of bass instruments will increase. It is more suitable for outdoor use.

Bass- Mode: The change is not that obvious. The bass is slightly reduced, and the vocal details are a little more prominent.

    Conclusion

Moondrop Pill poses a serious threat to budget and even mid-range clip-on earphones. The Pill performs well in terms of sound quality, battery life, and comfortable fit – it has a great value for the price.
