As Shokz’s first non-bone conduction headphones and split wireless earbuds with directional sound field technology, Shokz OpenFit brings us a very comfortable wearing experience. If you put comfort first and have certain requirements for sound quality, Shokz OpenFit may be a good choice.

Skin-Friendly Touch and Comfortable to Wear

Shokz OpenFit is the same in appearance as true wireless earphones, consisting of TWS earbuds and a charging case. The difference is that OpenFit uses a completely open earhook structure. A single earphone weighs only 8.3g, which is very comfortable to wear, and at the same time, eliminates the problem of stuffy ear canal and sweating.

Both the surface of the charging case and the earphones have a fine matte texture (the earhook is made of silicone), which feels good and has a certain sense of luxury. The appearance and texture are more in line with the positioning of mid-to-high-end open-ear headphones.

The earhook is made of silica gel + titanium wire, which is not only flexible and durable, but also firmly fits different ear shapes. Compared with ordinary bone conduction headphones, it will fit the ear better, but it will not make the ear feel confinement. The place where the inner side of the earphone cavity contacts the concha cavity is double-layer zero-degree silicone, which is very close to the softness of human skin. The outside of the earphone cavity is made of skin-friendly silicone material, which has certain anti-slip properties and can also improve comfort and stability.

Connectivity and Control

The earphones uses Bluetooth V5.2 technology and support SBC and AAC codec. When connecting for the first time, simply select “Shokz OpenFit” in your phone’s bluetooth device list to connect quickly. The headset is connected to the mobile phone stably within 10 meters. In an environment without obstacles, the connection will be intermittent if the distance from the mobile phone is more than 10 meters.

Shokz OpenFit is controlled in the same way as TWS earbuds. By double-tap and long-press the earphones, functions such as play/paus music, answer/hang up calls, and switch songs can be realized. The disadvantage is that the waiting time for switching songs is long, and the finger needs to be aligned with the raised part on the surface of the earphone cavity. There is no problem with daily office use, but the control experience during outdoor sports and cycling is not good enough.

Battery Life and Calls

In terms of battery life, the single battery life of OpenFit is up to 7 hours, and the combined battery life with the charging case can reach 28 hours. The earphones support fast charging – charging for 5 minutes, listening to music for 1 hour. Unfortunately, the charging box does not support wireless charging.

In order to take into account the needs of daily calls, Shokz OpenFit also supports AI call noise reduction. By adjusting the position of the receiving microphone and relying on the algorithm to calculate the voice position of the caller, while retaining the clear human voice, it reduces the ambient sound and echo, thereby improving the call quality. In addition, the earphones support IP54 waterproof and dustproof functions.

Sound Quality and Leakage

The sound quality is actually the part that surprised me the most about Shokz OpenFit. It is not easy for open-ear headphones to make the sound full without obvious sound leakage. OpenFit adopts directional sound field technology – Shokz DirectPitch, with 18mmx11mm dynamic drive unit and low frequency enhancement algorithm (Shokz OpenBass), which greatly improves the fullness and sound field of the sound – the low frequency quantity sense is sufficient and the sound field is open.

Testing songs – “One I Love” and “Now We Are Free”: The instruments and vocals are clearly layered, and the resolution of the earphones is good. Although not as good as HiFi earphones, as open-ear headphones, it can be said to be one of the best choices in this price segment.

Shokz OpenFit’s low-frequency and mid-frequency quantity sense is very sufficient, and you can clearly feel the surging low-frequency and clear vocal effects in the mid-frequency, and it makes good use of the advantages of the large-sized dynamic driver.

The unique open listening of no-in-ear headphones can perceive the ambient sound in real time, especially suitable for outdoor sports and commuting to work. Shokz’s acoustic patent – DirectPitch directional sound field technology, almost “0” sound leakage. In a quiet environment, at 50% volume, others cannot hear the content played in the earphones at all.

Verdict

As Shokz’s first non-bone conduction headphones and split wireless earbuds with directional sound field technology, Shokz OpenFit brings us a very comfortable wearing experience. Whether it is sports, commuting, or listening during relaxing moments, Shokz OpenFit brings a comfortable and high-quality wearing experience. When purchasing wireless earbuds, if you put comfort first and have certain requirements for sound quality, Shokz OpenFit may be a good choice.
