Baseus EX review: BISA panoramic sound technology enhances listening, music and movie dual mode

Baseus Bowie EX still has good competitiveness in the same price range, and with BISA panoramic sound spatial sound effects, it can bring a cinema-like sound experience. The 4-microphone noise cancellation also makes the call effect better, and the charging and low latency have a good performance. It is a pity that Baseus EX does not support Active Noise Cancellation and wireless charging.

Baseus Bowie EX specs and features:
  • Bluetooth 5.3 with AAC/SBC codec
  • Concentric dynamic+armature driver
  • 6 hours playback of per charge
  • Charging case can charge earbuds fully 4 times
  • Dual device connection & 60ms game latency
  • $59 – Check latest price on AliExpress or Amazon Germany

Appearance Design and Accessories

Bowie EX charging case adopts a round cake-shaped design, with the design embellishment of concentric circles, giving the whole product a visual freshness. Considering the flatness of the concentric circle design on the back, when it is placed on the desktop, it will not be too smooth like ordinary TWS earbuds. The delicate matte texture is not easy to cause scratches and significant fingerprint residues, but the size of the charging box is indeed slightly larger than the conventional TWS earbuds.

There is a bar-shaped indicator light on the front of the charging case, and the red light will flash when charging, which is very intuitive. The bottom has a USB Type-C charging port and a reset button. Long press the reset button for 5 seconds to restore the earbuds to factory settings, and it is very convenient to reconnect to bluetooth.

The earbuds adopts a semi-in-ear design with a short headset stem, and the earbuds also have the blessing of concentric circle design elements, which echoes the design concept with the charging case. In addition, the concentric circles are also the touch area of the earbuds. Like the charging case, the earbuds use a fine matte material to improve the anti-slip properties of the earbuds.

In terms of accessories, Baseus Bowie EX comes standard with a charging case, earbuds, eartips × 3, manual, warranty card, and USB Type-C cable. The overall accessories are relatively conventional and can basically meet the needs of most users.

Connectivity, Latency and Battery Life

Baseus EX adopts the Actions 3019E platform, which is the sub-flagship TWS earbuds platform of Actions, which provides support for the Bluetooth V5.3 protocol, allowing the game delay of Baseus EX to reach 60ms. Of course, this also requires mobile phone support. At the same time, the dual-device connection function also makes the connection of multiple devices more convenient.

In low latency mode, the gaming experience is still very good. The overall latency control is relatively good, and it is more than enough to play RPG games. For FPS games, you can still feel a little latency when shooting, but it is within the acceptable range of ordinary users.

In terms of battery life, the latest version of the bluetooth protocol also helps with battery life. The earbuds have a single battery life of up to 6 hours, and the charging case can fully charge the earbuds 4 times, with a total battery life of 30 hours. The earbuds also support the fast charging function, and you can listen to music for 2 hours after charging for 10 minutes. In addition, Baseus EX does not support wireless charging.

Call Noise Cancellation and App Support

Baseus EX adopts the 4-Mic neural network algorithm call noise cancellation processing technology. There are four high-definition microphones on the two earbuds to pick up the voice and external noise, and use powerful internal algorithms to reduce noise and optimize the voice.

Through actual measurement, Baseus Bowie EX can achieve a clearer call effect whether in a quiet office or a noisy coffee shop. What is more surprising is that, because of the special wind noise protection design, when wearing earbuds to make calls outdoors in windy weather, the other party will not affect the call quality due to excessive wind noise.

On the homepage of the Baseus APP, you can choose the panoramic sound mode and EQ adjustment, but it should be noted that the EQ adjustment cannot be performed when the panoramic sound is turned on in the music mode or in the movie mode. The next function on the bottom bar is earbuds positioning. The location of the earbuds will be recorded when the device is disconnected. In the settings, you can change the product name, earbuds control settings, turn on/off in-ear perception and low-latency mode.

In terms of audio, there are still twelve sound effects to choose from except custom, most of which are available and can give a good sense of hearing.

Sound Quality of Baseus Bowie EX

In terms of sound quality, Baseus EX adopts the armature+dynamic dual driver unit. The concentric moving-coil and moving-iron crossover can take into account the wider frequency response range of armature headphones to present a more detailed sound, as well as the excellent low frequency performance of dynamic headphones. At the same time, Baseus EX also adopts a self-developed acoustic cavity structure to control resonance interference and reduce distortion.

After connecting the mobile phone, turn on AAC bluetooth transmission in bluetooth to obtain high-definition audio transmission. After the actual audition, dynamic headphones do have excellent performance in low frequency, and the low frequency is relatively loud and powerful. With the addition of the armature driver, the separation of the instruments in the mid-high frequency is still relatively good. Especially in female voices, the high-pitched sibilance is more serious, but in general, you can feel that the middle and high frequencies are still very suitable for listening to female voices. This is even more unique in today’s TWS earbuds’ bias towards low-frequency tuning.

At the same time, Baseus Bowie EX also adopts BISA panoramic sound technology, which was jointly developed by Baseus and WANOS. WANOS has excellent technical accumulation in spatial audio technology, which can create a new three-dimensional immersive listening experience.

It is understood that this technology, by re-rendering the stereo auditory algorithm, perceives the sense of orientation of the sound effect and the spatial immersion of the sound field in the human ear. It is understood that this technology, by re-rendering the stereo auditory algorithm, perceives the sense of orientation of the sound effect and the spatial immersion of the sound field in the human ear. This kind of panoramic sound is definitely different from Apple’s spatial audio, because there is no corresponding sound source to provide, so it can be considered more as an algorithm for widening the sound field and bringing about changes in the sense of hearing. I also deliberately used Apple Music to play spatial audio and then turned on the panoramic sound of Baseus EX to try it out. The difference between the switches is obvious and fun.

The APP homepage has a mode selection for panoramic sound. Normal mode is off, you can choose music mode or movie mode. When I select music mode, the vocals are closer together, and the music has a more pronounced separation. Especially the jazz drum kit and some percussion instruments will go further, and the sound also has a certain sense of spatial reverberation.

Movie mode simulates the sense of space when watching movies in the theater, and pays more attention to the sense of surround. A certain instrument has a more directional performance, while the vocals are relatively closer, but the reverberation is further than the music mode. For a more immersive experience, these two modes can be selected according to your preferences.
