Edifier HECATE GX05 Review: 15ms Low-latency and Mecha Rotation Design

Edifier HECATE GX05 has the features of Flash Speed ultra-low-latency technology, multi-device compatibility and dual-mode online switching, which provide excellent convenience for gaming experience. At the same time, it can accurately restore the music and sound effects in the game, allowing you to be more immersed in the game world. Battery life is the biggest shortcoming of HECATE GX05.

Edifier HECATE GX05 specs and features:
    • Bluetooth 5.3 with SBC/LHDC codec
    • 15ms ultra-low-latency on 2.4G mode
    • 4 – 4.5 hours playback of per charge (2.4G/Bluetooth Mode)
    • Charging case can charge earbuds fully 3 times
    • $99 – Check latest price on AliExpress, Amazon US, other Amazon countries or Banggood

    Appearance Design – Comfort Fit

Edifier HECATE GX05 Review: 15ms Low-latency and Mecha Rotation Design

The appearance of the charging case is very cool, as the official introduction said – “cyber mech aesthetics”. The whole is made of zinc alloy material, and the craftsmanship is very delicate.

Three RGB light strips are set on the side of the charging case. The RGB gradient lighting effect is called “Illusion”, which perfectly fits the “RGB aesthetic” of e-sports players. There is a USB-C port on the front of the charging case and a function button on the bottom.

The “Y” part on the top of the charging box is a rotatable structure. After rotating it counterclockwise, the earbuds and 2.4G receiver can be exposed.

HECATE GX05 earbuds adopt the bean-shaped design, and a single earbud is about 4.9g. The inner side of the earbud is made of black skin-like material, and the outer part is made of metal-like coating. There are also a RGB light strips in the center.

Since the earbuds adopt the bean-shaped design, the weight of the earbud is distributed near the sound cavity. With the ergonomic curve, the earbuds can fit closely to the pinna without excessive burden and foreign body feeling, and the overall is very comfortable.

Connection – Controls – Battery Life

Edifier HECATE GX05 is a dual-mode gaming earbuds – it can be connected via Bluetooth, or use the Flash Speed ultra-low latency mode through the 2.4G receiver. The earbuds uses a Bluetooth 5.3 chip and supports SBC/LHDC codec.

In the factory state, you only need to rotate the “Y” part of the charging case one step (the charging case is turned on), and after the RGB light is on, the earbuds will enter the pairing state. At this time, select “HECATE GX05” from the bluetooth list of the mobile phone or tablet to complete the pairing.

The use of 2.4G mode is also very simple. Plug the wireless connector into your phone or convert to USB-A via the converter and plug it into your computer to complete the connection – just like the wireless mouse and keyboard.

Also, the two connection methods of HECATE GX05 can work together, which is the officially advertised “dual-mode online” function.

Two devices play audio at the same time, priority is given to 2.4G mode. If you need to switch to the mobile phone, stop the audio playback of the computer to switch automatically. For example: in the process of playing a computer game, you can also hear the game sound of the computer when answering a mobile phone call. In the current state, the microphone input is headphone, and the sound will not be transmitted to teammates.

The area near the RGB light bar is the touch sensing area. Control the earbud’s play/pause, previous/next, music/game mode switching, and RGB on/off by long-press, double-tap, and triple-tap.

The single battery life of the earbud is 4 – 4.5 hours (2.4G/Bluetooth mode), and the total battery life is about 14 – 16 hours. The earbuds supports fast charging, charging for 5 minutes and listening to music for 30 minutes. It takes about 1.5 hours to fully charge the charging case. Battery life is the biggest shortcoming of HECATE GX05.

Acoustic Architecture – Sound Quality Review – Calls

The product positioning of HECATE GX05 is a gaming headset, but the sound quality performance is also remarkable. The earbud has a built-in 10mm titanium-plated composite diaphragm dynamic driver, supports SBC and LDHC 5.0 codec, and has passed Hi-Res Wireless certification.

In terms of actual hearing, the low-frequency of GX05 is very full and rich in details. High-frequency has strong ductility and resolution. The mid-high frequency is transparent, which can excellently restore the details in the audio. The soundstage performance is also very wide, and the sound has a strong sense of presence.

The tuning of the music mode is biased towards the popular style, which strengthens the low-frequency drums and has a certain soundstage enhancement – making the sound more dynamic.

In terms of calls, HECATE GX05 adopts ENC call noise reduction technology, which can greatly reduce the ambient noise during calls. I conducted call tests indoors and outdoors – whether it is conference call or game voice, the sound presented by the GX05 is very clear.

    HECATE GX05 Game Review

As a headset specially designed for gaming and e-sports, HECATE GX05 not only has a game mode, but also support Flash Speed ultra-low-latency in 2.4G mode, which is very suitable for gamers.

The earbuds comes with a Type-C receiver as well as a USB converter – both phones and computers can use 2.4G mode. The advantage of Flash Speed 2.4G is ultra-low-latency, and the latency reduction is more obvious than bluetooth mode – the official data is 15ms.

On the other hand, two scene sound effects (game mode and music mode) are preset. Its game mode and sound effect tuning are quite obvious. But it is not the traditional FPS tuning direction, but similar to bass gain – the sound becomes very thick, deep and percussive. The music mode highlights the vocal and the sound is more transparent. After a multi-scenario test, there is no subtle noise. In the APEX game, the sound positioning ability is also not bad.

Tips: Bluetooth mode has higher sampling rate and better sound quality than 2.4G mode. The 2.4G mode focuses on low latency.

    Conclusion

Edifier HECATE GX05 has the features of 2.4G low-latency technology, multi-device compatibility and dual-mode online switching, which provide excellent convenience for the gaming experience. At the same time, it can accurately restore the music and sound effects in the game, allowing you to immerse yourself in the game world more and enhance the fun and realism of the game.

Also, HECATE GX05 can also meet the daily needs of listening to music, providing a good sound quality performance. If you are a player who pursues gaming experience and has certain requirements for the appearance and sound quality of the headset, then GX05 is a good choice.
