Appearance Design & Ports
FiiO SP3 is made of aluminum and manufactured through liquid metal die-casting process. The space utilization of the two speakers on the desktop is extremely high, and the black color is very easy to match. Metal aluminum can effectively reduce the resonance of the speaker when playing music, and also has good heat dissipation performance and electromagnetic shielding effect, providing a good working environment for the power amplifier inside the speaker.
The bottom of FiiO SP3 is designed with LED lights, which can add a little atmosphere to the desktop during daily use. Of course, you can also choose to turn off the lights if you don’t like it.
On the back of the speaker is the audio inverter tube. According to the “anatomical diagram” of FiiO’s speaker, the audio inverter tube of SP3 is S-shaped. On the speaker, the function of the inverted tube is to make the speaker have a stronger and lower low-frequency effect in the low frequency performance. For a compact speaker like the FiiO SP3, FiiO has designed a double diffused S-shaped inverter tube for the speaker. This shape effectively prevents air turbulence inside the tube, allowing the speaker to achieve excellent bass performance in a small volume.
In addition, the speaker’s audio interfaces, power button and low-frequency adjustment knob are also on the back. FiiO SP3 supports AUX input and RCA input. The speaker also comes with two high-standard audio cables – the cable connecting the main and sub speakers is made of monocrystalline copper, which has better signal transmission efficiency.
Hardware Configuration
FiiO SP3 uses a 3.5-inch carbon fiber midwoofer + 1-inch silk tweeter. The carbon fiber material has good rigidity, but is light enough to reduce the deformation and distortion of the diaphragm, presenting bass details and rapid changes of notes, which helps to enhance the realism and dynamic expression when listening to music.
The midwoofer of FiiO SP3 adopts an asymmetric inner and outer magnetic circuit design. This design not only uses conventional external magnets to generate driving force, but also adds auxiliary magnets in the center of the magnetic circuit to increase the magnetic field strength and improve the magnetic field uniformity of the magnetic gap. The purpose of this is to ensure that the voice coil is always moving in a relatively uniform magnetic field, thereby reducing the nonlinear distortion that may occur during large dynamics. Provides a more powerful driving force for the bass in a large dynamic range, thereby improving the quality and expressiveness of the bass.
The top of the speaker uses the soft sound-absorbing treble deme design to absorb the harmonics generated behind the diaphragm. By adopting high-standard silk tweeter, sound-absorbing structure, and special magnet design, SP3 achieves excellent high-frequency performance and maintains the resolution and delicacy of high-frequency timbre.
If the high-standard acoustic unit is the basis for guaranteeing HiFi sound quality, then the internal amplifier module is its core. FiiO SP3 uses two TI 3118 modules to ensure the purity of audio signals during transmission. At the same time, FiiO’s acoustic team designed an independent four-channel electronic frequency division solution for the four units of SP3, so that each unit has an independent circuit system, thereby reducing signal interference.
Subjective Sound Quality Review
It’s hard for me to believe that the FiiO SP3 brings such powerful music energy in such a small size. The sound of the SP3 is balanced and detailed, with clear mid-frequency performance and good separation – every instrument and vocal in the music comes out just right. The high-frequency shows delicate musical details and good ductility, so that the high-pitched notes in the music can be clearly and naturally conveyed, adding a sense of layering and delicacy to the entire audio spectrum.
Conclusion
The low-frequency extension of FiiO SP3 is deep enough, and at the same time – it has a clear midrange and delicate treble. It also brings excellent transients and precise soundstage positioning.
