    01/ Earbuds

    Main Control Chip

Teardown Comparison: Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro vs Samsung Galaxy Buds 2 Pro

The main control chip of Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro uses a SiP (System in Package) system-in-package chip with Samsung’s brand name printed on it.

The main control chip of Samsung Galaxy Buds 2 Pro is BES BES2700YP, which is the latest generation of BES ultra-low power consumption and highly integrated bluetooth audio SoC. Using 12nm process technology, it integrates dual-mode Bluetooth 5.3. Support BT&BLE, the main processor has built-in Arm Cortex-M55 CPU and Tensilica HiFi 4 DSP, which greatly improves the computing performance of the chip. The sensor hub subsystem has a built-in STAR-MC1 MCU and BES self-developed neural network processor BECO NPU, which realizes rich application processing capabilities while reducing power consumption.

    Power Management Chip

Teardown Comparison: Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro vs Samsung Galaxy Buds 2 Pro

The Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro power management chip uses Samsung’s self-developed MUB01 chip. Integrate five components (fuel gauge, DC/DC converter, linear charger, low dropout/LDO regulator, and reset IC) into a single chipset to save space, match with MUA01 in the charging case, and support firmware update. The power management chip model of Samsung Galaxy Buds2 Pro has been upgraded to “MUB02”.

    Audio Digital Signal Processor

Teardown Comparison: Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro vs Samsung Galaxy Buds 2 Pro

The Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro is equipped with a Cirrus Logic CS47L63 low-power audio digital signal processor. A chip with similar functions to this one has not been seen on the Galaxy Buds2 Pro.

    Six-Axis Sensor

Teardown Comparison: Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro vs Samsung Galaxy Buds 2 Pro

The 6-axis sensors of Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro and Galaxy Buds2 Pro both use ST solutions. Galaxy Buds Pro uses model LSM6DSL, high-performance 6-axis sensor, integrated acceleration and gyroscope, mainly to realize tapping function and head rotation tracking, and is used to realize the 360° sound effect function of earbuds.

Galaxy Buds2 Pro is equipped with LSM6DSV16BX 6-axis IMU and bone conduction two-in-one chip. The 6-axis IMU is used for 360 audio function, bone conduction is used for noise reduction of uplink calls, and the software can support head tracking and VAD algorithm.

    Acceleration Sensor

Teardown Comparison: Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro vs Samsung Galaxy Buds 2 Pro

Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro is equipped with ST LIS25BATR high-bandwidth voice acceleration sensor. Applied to the voice detection function and call noise reduction function of earbuds, compared with the traditional dual-mic solution, the bone vibration sensor can suppress wind noise/environmental noise better. Galaxy Buds2 Pro integrates this function by LSM6DSV16BX.

    In-Ear Detection Sensor

Teardown Comparison: Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro vs Samsung Galaxy Buds 2 Pro

Both the in-ear detection function of Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro and Galaxy Buds2 Pro are supported by infrared distance optical sensors. It is used to automatically pause the music playback when the earbud is taken off, and automatically resume the music playback function after wearing it.

    Battery

Teardown Comparison: Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro vs Samsung Galaxy Buds 2 Pro

Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro and Galaxy Buds2 Pro use the same specification steel case button battery from Samsung SDI Co., Ltd. Model: NS1250, size: 12mm (diameter), 5.0mm (thickness), rated voltage: 3.85V, rated capacity: 58mAh.

    Speaker

Teardown Comparison: Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro vs Samsung Galaxy Buds 2 Pro

Both the Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro and Galaxy Buds2 Pro are equipped with coaxial dual speakers tuned by AKG. The former consists of 11mm woofer + 6.5mm tweeter. The latter uses a 10mm woofer + 5.3mm tweeter, and supports Samsung Seamless Codec (SSC), which can support 24bit high-fidelity audio.

    Microphone

Teardown Comparison: Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro vs Samsung Galaxy Buds 2 Pro

Both the Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro and the Galaxy Buds2 Pro are equipped with three MEMS microphones. Three microphones of the former are high signal-to-noise ratio microphones, while the latter call microphone uses a high signal-to-noise ratio microphone. The three microphones work together for functions such as ANC, call noise reduction, and ambient sound mode pickup.

The call pickup is combined with the ST voice pickup unit to achieve better suppression of wind noise/environmental noise and clearer calls. Galaxy Buds2 Pro is also equipped with deep neural network technology (DNN) to further improve the call effect.

    02/ Charging Case

    Battery

Teardown Comparison: Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro vs Samsung Galaxy Buds 2 Pro

The lithium battery built into the Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro charging case comes from Tianjin Samsung Vision Co., Ltd. Model: EB-BR190ABY, capacity: 472mAh 1.81Wh, nominal voltage: 3.85V⎓/, charging limit voltage: 4.4V⎓.

Samsung Galaxy Buds2 Pro charging case built-in lithium battery model: EB-BR510ABY, rated capacity: 500mAh/1.94Wh, typical capacity: 515mAh 1.99Wh, nominal voltage: 3.88V, charging limit voltage: 4.47V, from ATL.

    Power Management Chip

Teardown Comparison: Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro vs Samsung Galaxy Buds 2 Pro

Both are equipped with Samsung’s self-developed integrated power management chip, which integrates an efficient switching charger. It supports the Qi 1.2.4 wireless charging standard of the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC), and a single chip is responsible for both wireless and wired charging modes. At the same time, it also integrates MCU and embedded flash memory (eFlash), supports firmware upgrade over the air, making the peripheral circuit of the chip very streamlined. The silk screen model of the former is “S2MUA01X”, and the latter is upgraded to “S2MUA02X”.

    04/ Conclusion
