    Redmi K50 Champion Edition

Compared with the Xiaomi Redmi K50 Ultra, the Redmi K50 Champion Edition is cooler in appearance. The Mercedes-Benz logo, red waistline, carbon fiber textured frame, track magg and F1-exclusive green make the appearance even more cool. Although the back cover is made of plastic, the visual impression is exquisite and handsome.

In terms of mobile phone performance, the Redmi K50 Champion Edition continues the tradition of focusing on “performance” and “cost performance”. Compared with mobile phones with the same Snapdragon 8+ processor, the Redmi K50 Champion Edition has an advantage in price. However, there are some trade-offs in photography, but this is also reasonable. If the level of photography is very good, the price of the Redmi K50 Champion Edition is definitely much more than that.

    01/ Appearance Design

    Redmi K50 Champion Edition

In appearance, the Redmi K50 Champion Edition is based on silver with many Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team elements. For example, the Mercedes-Benz logo, the carbon fiber texture design on both sides of the back of the fuselage, and the Petronas green and red waistlines are decorated. Even the design of the checkered flag track is added to the lower half of the back of the phone, which has a sense of racing speed and impact. Although the plastic material seems a little “cheap”, it can’t stand the good-looking joint design.

    Redmi K50 Champion Edition

The design of the Redmi K50 Champion Edition really surprised me. Unexpectedly, the design style of the rear camera module of the Xiaomi Mi 12 series was directly adopted. A big eye is matched with two vertical small eyes, and the words 108MP are hot-stamped on the rear camera module. Although the name is K50 Champion Edition, it is not directly related to the previously released Redmi K50, and it feels more like a derivative version of the Xiaomi Mi 12 series.

    02/ Display

    Redmi K50 Champion Edition

The front of the Redmi K50 Champion Edition is a 6.67-inch 1.5K resolution OLED flat screen. That’s right, it’s 1.5K, with a resolution of 2712*1220 and a pixel density of 446 PPI. It supports 120Hz refresh rate and 480Hz touch sampling rate, and the typical screen peak brightness is 500nits. 1920Hz high frequency PWM dimming can improve the problem of low brightness screen flicker. The screen pixels are arranged like diamonds, and the screen performance is quite satisfactory.

The Redmi K50 Champion Edition uses off-screen optical fingerprint unlocking instead of side fingerprint unlocking. The top and bottom, left and right borders of the screen are roughly the same width.

In addition to the appearance, the default system theme of the Redmi K50 Champion Edition also uses the green of the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team, and the car picture of the AMG Petronas F1 Team in the lock screen wallpaper. Although the co-branded design elements are full, this all-green design style is not particularly comfortable, and because the icons are all green, it is not convenient to find different applications.

    03/ Performance & Gaming Test

The core upgrade point and competitiveness of the Redmi K50 Champion Edition is the Snapdragon 8+ processor, which adopts TSMC’s 4nm process technology. I have also tested many Snapdragon 8+ mobile phones before, and the performance is relatively good. In particular, it solves the controversial problems of high power consumption and high heat generation of the Snapdragon 8. Although the theoretical performance is only a small improvement, the experience improvement is huge. It is also equipped with LPDDR5 memory and UFS3.1 flash memory.

In terms of performance, the Redmi K50 Champion Edition has reached the highest level today. It scored 1.09 million points in the AnTuTu software, ranking 5th in the leaderboard. In Geekbench 5, which is biased towards the CPU test, the single-core running score is 1325 points, and the multi-core running score is 4220 points. Compared with the Snapdragon 8, the performance of both single-core and multi-core has been improved.

In the “Genshin Impact” game test, first turn on the performance mode of the phone’s power, and then turn on the performance mode in the game acceleration. Turn the game on to the highest image quality possible. In the 60 frame rate mode, in an air-conditioned room around 26°C, the average frame rate of the game is 58.3FPS, and there are occasional lag situations.

In terms of power consumption, compared to the previous 6-7W power consumption of the Snapdragon 8 processor, the power consumption of the Redmi K50 Champion Edition equipped with the Snapdragon 8+ this time is much lower, with an average power consumption of about 5.7W. And this is the power consumption when the average game frame rate is 58.3FPS, converted into an energy efficiency ratio of about 10.2FPS/W, in short, the power consumption has been reduced a lot.

After 40 minutes of “Genshin Impact”, the highest temperature on the back of the phone was 39.1°C, and the highest temperature on the front was 40.7°C. Compared with the temperature of some Snapdragon 8 processors, which is close to 50°C, it has dropped by nearly 10°C. It feels warm to the touch, but not too hot.

In the “Honor of King” game experience for 3 consecutive rounds, with the highest 120 frame rate mode turned on, the Redmi K50 Champion Edition can maintain a frame rate of around 120FPS, and the average game frame rate is around 117FPS. Although the fuselage will still be a little hot, but the temperature is not particularly high, the highest is about 40 ℃. The average gaming power is 5718mW, which is on par with “Genshin Impact”.

    04/ Photography

In terms of photography, the Redmi K50 Champion Edition uses a rear triple-camera module. The main camera is a 100-megapixel camera with Samsung HM6 sensor, 1/1.67″ CMOS, supports OIS optical image stabilization, and can generate a 12-megapixel photo in 9-in-1. The other two sub-cameras are an 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens and 2MP macro lens. In general, the photography configuration is very general, and it is not suitable for users who pay too much attention to photography.

In well-lit daytime scenes, the imaging style of the Redmi K50 Champion Edition tends to be cooler. When taking a photo with the sky, it can be clearly felt that the sky is turning blue. The default imaging is 12 million pixels, but because of the 100 million pixel CMOS and the blessing of 9 pixels in 1, the performance in detail is acceptable.

More options from shooting mode can be switched to 108MP pixel mode. Compared with the default 12MP, the imaging speed is slightly slower, and the photo size is more than 14MB. Compared with 5MB of 12MP, it is nearly 3 times larger, and it is not recommended to open it for daily shooting.

    100 million pixel proofs

Since there is no telephoto lens, the Redmi K50 Champion Edition can only obtain telephoto proofs by cropping, which can support up to 10x digital zoom. In the case of 2x digital zoom, the picture quality of the daytime landscape sample is acceptable. Although the image quality of the 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens is not high, it can also come in handy when shooting some ultra-wide scenes.

    Night scene proofs

In general, the shooting performance of the Redmi K50 Champion Edition feels average to me, and there is nothing particularly outstanding about it. White balance is not particularly accurate, and the tones are noticeably cooler. For friends who don’t have much demand for shooting, they can meet some casual shooting in daily life. But if you want to take some good-looking photos, you need to test the user’s shooting skills.

    05/ Battery Life & Others

This time, the Redmi K50 Champion Edition still uses 120W fast charging, and also added two Xiaomi self-developed Surging P1 fast charging chips. Different from the dual-cell fast charging structure of vivo and OPPO, the Redmi K50 Champion Edition uses a single cell. Compared with dual cells, it can save some space, which is one of the reasons why a 5000mAh battery can be used, which can be fully charged in about 20 minutes.

In addition, configurations such as X-axis linear motor, stereo dual speakers, infrared, NFC, etc., are equipped with the Redmi K50 Champion Edition. But the “advanced” 3.5mm headphone jack is not retained.
