Some time ago, Boox released two new smart readers Poke 4 and Poke 4S. Recently, I also received these two products for experience, and I will simply share with you below.

The Boox Poke 4/4S still has a 6-inch screen. Although it is 6 inches, because the screen ratio is close to 3:4, it is larger than the ordinary 6.1-inch mobile phone screen, and it is more suitable for displaying more text and picture content. Although they are all the same size, the Boox Poke 4 has a screen resolution of 1072×1448, while the Boox Poke 4S has a 1024×758 resolution. The screen of the former is more delicate, and it adopts a flat front design, with a whole piece of glass covering the screen and the frame.
In addition, the difference between the two is also reflected in the storage size. The Boox Poke 4 has 32GB ROM, while the Boox Poke4S has 16GB ROM. On the system side, the Poke 4 has an additional gesture setting to quickly return from an app, return to the desktop, or open the E-lnk Center, while the Poke 4S does not.
In other respects, the Boox Poke 4/4S uses a Qualcomm quad-core processor, 2GB LPDDR4X RAM and Android 11 OS, is equipped with a USB-C interface, and weighs about 150g. My first impression of these two eReaders is that they are light and compact, and they are very comfortable to hold in one hand.
The Boox Poke 4/4S system has five first-level menus: library, bookstore, storage, application and settings, but I don’t know why the ordering of the two readers is different. In the bookstore application, JD Bookstore is directly used, and you can log in directly by scanning the code using WeChat or JD App, which is relatively simple and convenient.
In the application, in addition to the built-in dictionary, calculator, mutual transfer, clock and other functions, you can also download third-party apps through the application market. The official provides five categories of apps: reading, news, learning, tools and office, with a total of hundreds of apps, and they are all relatively popular apps, such as WeChat reading, Duokan, Qidian, Toutiao, Ximalaya and other apps, and even WeChat, DingDing and other apps Also available for download. Apparently the Boox Poke 4/4S isn’t just for reading, it can also provide some Android tablet experience if you want. Because of limited hardware performance, the experience may not be as good as a tablet.
In the E-Ink Center, in addition to the dark enhancement and light filtering functions, Poke 4/4S also provides four different levels of refresh rate. But the refresh rate and picture quality cannot be at the same time, so if you are just reading at ordinary times, you still use the normal refresh. If you are watching videos and browsing the web, it is more suitable for X refresh.
In the reading interface, Poke 4/4S is also very good to use. The floating ball on the side can perform some operations quickly, and it will not be overwhelmed for novices and do not know how to use the functions. For reading books, the font, font size, interval style and contrast can be adjusted, which can basically meet everyone’s individual needs.
I personally use the WeChat Reader App more often. After downloading WeChat Reader in Poke 4, you can log in by scanning the code. After logging in, data such as books and collected articles in the bookshelf in the WeChat Reader App on the mobile phone will also be synchronized to Poke 4. In addition, WeChat Reader App adapts well to Boox Poke 4, and can even open floating-window articles that are currently reserved in WeChat. For example, if you see an excellent article while browsing the Moments, you can choose to open the setting floating window, and then when you are free, you can continue reading on Poke 4, which is a great experience.
When using the Bilibili Comics App, Boox Poke 4 has also made a lot of functional adaptations. The comics are tiled on a whole screen and look very comfortable. Comics also have options for reading mode, image quality, and single-page or double-page options. In the double-page state, the eReader will change to landscape reading mode. For me, using Poke 4 to read books and read comics is a more immersive reading experience than on my phone.
Boox officially launched a protective leather case for Poke 4/4S, the official price is 89 CNY, and there will be some discounts when purchasing with eReader. This leather case supports sleep reminder, and opening the leather case can automatically wake up the reader. The texture of the leather case itself is very good, and the pattern it is equipped with is also very artistic, suitable for the style of readers, and the surface texture of the leather case is very good.
In terms of price, Boox Poke 4 is 999 CNY, and Poke 4S is 749 CNY. In general, the advantage of Boox Poke 4/4S is that it is 6 inches small and thin, and it is very easy to carry and read at any time. In addition, the reading function is relatively complete, and other functions are also relatively diverse. For consumer groups who want an immersive reading experience, the Boox Poke 4/4S eRader will be a good choice.
