Video has become the mainstream of content dissemination in the new era, and content creators who pay more attention to sound quality basically use external wireless microphones to assist in recording. The well-known microphone brand Saramonic recently launched a high-end positioning Saramonic Blink900 mini dual-channel wireless microphone system.

    Saramonic Blink900

It has many features such as power-on connection, wide compatibility, support for 200 meters of wireless transmission, and comprehensive battery life of up to 18 hours. What is the actual effect? Is it right for you? In today’s hands-on, we would be diving straight into more details about the Saramonic Blink900 wireless microphone.

    01/ Design and Recording Effects

Thin and light cubes, full of professionalism

Saramonic Blink900 consists of one receiver and two transmitters. The two adopt a unified design language. The overall body is similar to a square, and the whole body is black, which is common in photographic equipment, which is full of professionalism. The front of the fuselage is a bright black surface like a piano key, which looks better but is also more prone to fingerprints. The sides and bottom are frosted texture. In terms of weight, the two are slightly different (RX: 33.6g, TX: 35.3g), and both weigh about 35g. What is the concept of this weight? It is about the weight of 1.5 AA batteries, which is very light.

    Saramonic Blink900

    Dual transmitter, more professional stereo

Saramonic Blink900 supports both mono and stereo recording modes. When recording a single-person Vlog, we only need to use one transmitter to record in mono mode, and the user will not feel the sound from left to right when watching. When shooting two-person scenes for dialogues and interviews, we can have one transmitter per person, and record in stereo mode, so that the sounds collected by the two transmitters are saved separately on their own tracks. When the audience is playing with headphones or using multi-speaker devices, they can clearly perceive the difference between the left and right sides of the sound, which can be used to express a special sense of space and is more convenient for post-processing of the audio.

    02/ Battery Life

Comes with a charging box, 18 hours of comprehensive battery life

As a wireless microphone, the Saramonic Blink900, like all wireless products, needs to rely on the built-in battery to work, so its battery life is also what we need to focus on. The Saramonic Blink900 has a built-in 400mAh lithium battery, which officially claims to last about 6 hours. This kind of battery life is enough for daily short video shooting. And the accessories of the Saramonic Blink900 include a charging box with a built-in 4500mAh battery. Compared with the previous Saramonic highest-end Blink500 Pro charging box with only 3000mAh, the capacity has increased by 50%.

When not in daily use, both the transmitter and receiver can be placed in the charging box and charged with the help of magnetic contacts to extend the battery life. Officials claim that the combined battery life of the Saramonic Blink900 with the charging box can reach 18 hours, that is, it can be used three times in a complete cycle.

    Saramonic Blink900

It is also worth noting that whether Saramonic Blink900 is a transmitter, receiver or charging box, the charging interface is a Type-C interface. In this way, even if the provided charging cable cannot be found for a while, the Saramonic Blink900 can be charged with the Type-C charging cable of the mobile phone.

    Saramonic Blink900

In terms of charging speed, the power of the Saramonic Blink900 charging box is 7.5W, and it takes about 4 hours to fully charge. It is a normal level in similar products, but the working efficiency may be affected by the charging speed during high-intensity work. It would be even better if it could support fast charging. In addition, when the transmitter or receiver is put into the charging case while the power is on, it will shut down immediately. After taking it out of the charging case again, it needs to be restarted before it can be used. If it will automatically turn on after leaving the charging box, it will be more convenient to use.

    Saramonic Blink900

    03/ Interaction Experience

Color LCD display, information presentation is more intuitive

Unlike smartphones, which have high-definition color displays, wireless microphone products have been designed with no or non-color displays for a long time. Compared with the monochrome display of Saramonic Blink500 Pro, Saramonic Blink900 is directly equipped with a color LCD display, and the signal, power and electrical level are displayed in different colors. It also has a built-in light sensor, which can sense changes in ambient light intensity, and then automatically adjust the screen brightness, so that it can always maintain a comfortable display effect while saving power to a certain extent.

    Saramonic Blink900

Rich accessories, compatible with all devices of Apple, Android and camera

Saramonic Blink900 needs to be used with a video recording device, so what is the device compatibility? When we open the package of Saramonic Blink900, we can see that it comes with all adapter cables including Apple lightning interface, Type-C interface, 3.5mm headphone TRRS interface and TRS interface for cameras. This means that Saramonic Blink900 is almost fully compatible with mainstream Apple, Android, cameras and other video recording devices on the market. Whether you use a mobile phone to shoot Vlogs, or use a tripod-mounted SLR camera, it can be perfectly adapted.

    Saramonic Blink900

Abundant accessories bring storage problems. The mesh pocket inside the upper cover of the Saramonic Blink900 charging box can hold two or three cables. Other cables may require an additional storage box or storage bag for storage. If the storage space of the charging box can be made larger, or made into two layers, to ensure that other accessories can also be put down, it will be more convenient for daily storage and use.

Small and portable, the back clip is still stable

The dimensions of the Saramonic Blink900 are 46×46×16.4mm. Compared with the oval shape of the Saramonic Blink500 Pro, which is wide at the top and narrow at the bottom, the Saramonic Blink900 is more square and refined. The integrated back clip can still secure it to the collar or camera shoe, which is also reassuring to use.

    04/ Product Details

200 meters distance transmission, stable transmission sound

Under normal circumstances, the transmitter and receiver can often see each other, and the communication is very smooth. However, it is difficult to guarantee that there will be no interruptions, such as a sudden obstacle formed by a pedestrian, and some wireless microphones may be disconnected as a result, resulting in some blank recordings.

The Saramonic Blink900 can support up to 200 meters of wireless transmission, which is a 100% upgrade compared to the 100-meter transmission range of the Saramonic Blink500 Pro. Although the actual shooting may be within a few meters, the longer the supported wireless communication distance, the stronger the anti-interference ability. After actual measurement, the transmitter and receiver can still transmit stably and the sound is clear even when there is a wall between them.

    Saramonic Blink900

    Automatic pairing, ready to use

The transmitter and receiver of the wireless microphone are wirelessly connected, and the two need to be paired for normal transmission. The Saramonic Blink900 is automatically paired when it is turned on, no manual connection is required. The version we use is a one-for-two, that is, one receiver and two transmitters. Regardless of whether the transmitter and receiver are connected or not, the Saramonic Blink900’s screen has a clear display, which brings great convenience.

    Saramonic Blink900

Professional lavalier microphone, more immersive video

Saramonic Blink900 needs to be close to the wearer’s throat when working, so it is usually clipped to the collar. But this way, the transmitter of the Saramonic Blink900 is seen in the video. If you want to hide it, you can use the provided professional-grade SR-DK3G lavalier microphone to connect with the transmitter to hide the smaller lavalier microphone inside the clothes. The microphone is no longer visible in the video, the video is more immersive, and the recording effect is almost indistinguishable from the effect of the microphone that comes with the transmitter.

    Saramonic Blink900

    05/ Conclusion: A comprehensive upgrade

The Saramonic Blink900 is a high-end wireless microphone priced at $390. The human-computer interaction logic is simple, and it can be used when it is turned on. The 200-meter transmission distance, color display and 18-hour comprehensive battery life can bring us better sound recording effects. Compared with the Saramonic Blink500 Pro, battery life, display, transmission and other aspects have been upgraded.

If you have the idea of shooting Vlogs or short videos, or if you want the videos recorded in live broadcasts, interviews, online teaching and other scenarios to have better sound effects. Then the Saramonic Blink900 with simple operation, convenient use, abundant accessories and strong compatibility is very worth buying. Especially for video shooting where two people appear more often, its features of one-for-two and charging box can improve your work efficiency a lot.

Is there someone having trouble pairing one of the transmitters with the receiver? I’m not sure how to solve this. Same location with Channel B Tx but Channel A Tx has no signal and can’t be paired.

I have not encountered this problem. Maybe you can restart the TX and RX, or see if the settings are okay.
