Appearance Design and Comfort
The design of the charging case is inspired by pebbles, showing a round and smooth shape. The front of the charging case is equipped with a status indicator light to remind the user of the charging and connection status.
Sanag Z51S Pro Max maintains the design style of Sanag Z50S – Appearance and Air Conduction. The advantage is that when worn, the headphones hang behind the ears like earrings. The touch area of the headphone is changed to a mirror design, which is also different from the Sanag Z50S.
The weight of a single headphone is about 6g, and it is designed with a memory silicone flexible ring and a curved cabin – fitting the size and shape of the auricle, with uniform force, and can be firmly fixed on the ear. Not only comfortable to wear, but also not easy to fall off during exercise. The non-in-ear design also avoids damage to the ear canal caused by long time wearing.
Compared with bone conduction headphones, air conduction will not feel numb after wearing for a long time, and the sound is closer to traditional bluetooth headphones.
The headphones support IPX5 waterproof rating, which can effectively resist sweat and rain. That means you don’t have to worry about being affected by sweat whether you’re running or exercising.
Connectivity, Latency and Control
The headphone uses a Bluetooth 5.3 chip, the latency is as low as 40ms, and the connection is stable within 10 meters without lag. When connecting for the first time, just select “Sanag Z51S Pro Max Max” in your phone’s bluetooth device list to connect quickly. Open the charging box for subsequent use to connect to a successfully paired bluetooth device.
Playing games and watching videos is no problem – it works flawlessly on both Android and iPhone with perfect sound and picture sync.
The touch area of the headphones adopts a mirror design, which increases the overall texture to a certain extent. Sensitivity is also good, making it easy to perform various operations – such as switch songs, answer/end calls, and adjust the volume, etc.
- Single-tap L or R earbud – play/pause music, answer call
- Double-tap L or R earbud – reject/end call
- Double-tap L/R earbud – volume+/volume-
- Triple-tap L/R earbud – previous/next song
- Long-press L or R earbud 3s – activate voice assistant
Calls, Battery Life and APP
Sanag Z51S Pro Max uses dual-mic array beamforming, which can accurately pick up voice and filter out noise interference. During my experience, it was no problem to use it for daily calls. It comes with a CVC algorithm for noise cancellation, so you can hear clearly even in a relatively noisy environment.
The battery capacity of the charging case is 400mAh, and that of the headphone is 50mAh. The charging case is charged by the USB-C port, which can provide up to 50 hours of long battery life. The headphones have a single battery life of up to 8 hours.
Also, through the Sanag APP, you can check the battery level of the headphones, control methods and select EQ sound effects.
Leakage and Sound Quality
In fact, for open-ear headphones, as far as I am concerned, my requirements for sound quality are not high. Obviously, for many consumers, myself included, comfort is the number one priority when purchasing open-ear headphones.
However, one thing I will be more concerned about is whether there is any sound leakage problem in the headphones. The reason is simple, I don’t want to disturb others while I’m listening to music. In this regard, the performance of Sanag Z51S Pro Max is quite satisfactory to me.
Z51S Pro Max adopts DT3.0 pulse directional sound transmission technology. The headphones can automatically adjust the propagation angle of the integrated sound beam by ±25° to ensure that the sound is accurately transmitted to the ear canal and minimize sound leakage.
The actual sound leakage situation is acceptable to me. Play the video at normal volume, and you can vaguely hear the sound from the headphones when you get close, but you cannot hear the specific content – what you hear is noise.
Sanag Z51S Pro adopts a sound-absorbing inner cavity barrier design, combined with the third-generation Sanag-Acavity acoustic cavity, the fourth-generation SSQVP EXTREME digital sound enhancement technology, and the high-bass dual-unit composite diaphragm, which can make the headphones present a wider soundstage.
Thanks to directional sound transmission technology, Z51S Pro Max allows you to hear more sound details. Another advantage of the open-ear design is that the sound will be more transparent, and the tri-frequency will be more balanced.
The low-frequency is flexible, and the quantity sense is somewhat lacking. The medium and high-frequencies are transparent and clear, the soundstage is open, and no broken sound, which can better restore the sound details.
Sanag Z51S Pro Max continues the design of the previous generation – comfortable and stable to wear. The hardware configuration and technical solutions have been improved to a certain extent, providing us with better sound quality and longer battery life. However, the main advantage of air conduction headphones is not the sound quality, but the pursuit of a more comfortable wearing experience and the feature of being suitable for a variety of scenarios.
