Marshall Middleton review: Support fast charging, portable and practical bluetooth speaker

Recently, Marshall launched a Marshall Middleton bluetooth speaker. This bluetooth speaker has outstanding highlights in terms of appearance design, portability and practicality.

Appearance, Connectivity and Battery Life

Marshall Middleton inherits the classic black and gold design of Marshall speakers, the top and sides of the speaker is covered with silicone. Support IP67 dust and water-resistant, even if the speaker gets some water stains, it will not affect the normal use.

All the buttons of the bluetooth speaker are located on the top area, the circular control button is in the center, and the left side is the bluetooth pairing button, the power display button and a strip-shaped indicator light. On the right side are the BASS and TREBLE adjustment buttons, which can finely set the treble and bass performance of the speaker. (both bass and treble are adjustable in 10 levels)

The circular control button integrates 5 functions, pressing left and right is the previous/next song, pressing up and down is to adjust the volume. Each bar of the volume indicator has 3 levels of brightness adjustment, long press is the power switch function of the speaker. The volume adjustment of Marshall Middleton is finer than conventional portable speakers, with a total of 32 adjustable levels.

There’s a USB-C port and a 3.5mm audio jack in the lower right area on the back of the speaker. The USB-C interface supports up to 20V3A input power when charging the speaker, and it can provide about 20 hours of battery life when fully charged. Marshall Middleton supports fast charging function – charging for 20 minutes, listening to music for 2 hours. Moreover, this interface can not only charge the speaker, but also reverse charge mobile devices such as mobile phones or tablets through the speaker, but the output power is only 5V1A.

The 3.5mm audio interface can be connected to a computer or music player to achieve wired audio output. Relatively speaking, wired audio transmission can bring better sound quality performance. Marshall Middleton supports Bluetooth 5.1 technology, with a wireless transmission distance within 10 meters.


Hardware Configuration and Sound

In terms of audio hardware, Marshall Middleton adopted a four-speaker system solution. Built-in two 3″ 15W woofers, two 3/5″ 10W tweeters and two passive radiators. The frequency response range is 50Hz-20KHz, and 360° stereo surround sound performance can be obtained. In terms of tuning, the speaker is biased towards the mid-low frequency and has sufficient quantity sense. However, the built-in speakers of Marshall Middleton have better performance, even though the tuning is the same as that of Marshall Emberton II, but the texture of low frequency is better and clearer.
