Sennheiser IE 200 review: New challenger for HiFi headphones under $200
Sennheiser is a brand that audiophiles cannot avoid, and the IE series is talked about by many people. It can be said that each of the Sennheiser IE series earphones has its own characteristics. This time, Sennheiser brought a new IE series earphones – Sennheiser IE 200. How is the performance of this friendly earphones? Let’s see if it’s worth buying.

    Family Classic Design

When I got the Sennheiser IE 200 for the first time, I felt it was light, very light. The earphones are made of plastic as the main material, so that the weight of a single earphone is only 4g. The surface of the earphones is treated with an all-black matte finish, which looks very low-key. The appearance of earphones still continues the classic design of Sennheiser IE series. The fit between the earphones and the auricle is very high, and there will be no strong foreign body sensation when worn for a long time. Sennheiser IE 200 has a good wearing comfort.

The earphone cable is a little different this time

The Sennheiser IE 200 uses a 4-stranded braided cord. The earphone cable has good softness, and it is not easy to produce a stethoscope effect in normal use. At the interface of the earphone cable, Sennheiser has plastic-sealed the earphone, which helps to extend the service life of the earphone cable. And the plastic seal of the interface adopts transparent treatment, which will not damage the aesthetics of the earphones. There is a metal wire hidden in the earhook part of IE 200, which can adjust the bending angle of the earhook according to the shape of different people’s ears during use.

    Restore the real high-fidelity sound

Sennheiser IE 200 is equipped with a 7mm TrueResponse single dynamic driver with a polymer diaphragm. This dynamic driver also appears in Sennheiser True Wireless earbuds, Sennheiser IE 900 and Sennheiser IE 600. However, IE series earphones are different in cavity design. The sound of earphones depends on the acoustic system of the entire earphone, not on a certain component. So the sound performance of Sennheiser IE 200 is quite different from other IE series earphones.

Sennheiser IE 200 belongs to “bucket type” earphones in terms of sound performance. The IE 200’s tri-frequency performance is relatively balanced, the mid-high frequency has a good sense of transparency and naturalness, and the sound reproduction is real. In terms of low-frequency performance, IE 200 has a relatively restrained style, and its low-frequency quantity sense is relatively conservative. For those who like to listen to “boom, boom, boom” music, it may not feel readily enough. However, the low-frequency resolution of Sennheiser IE 200 is very good, and the lines of the sound are very clear. The transient response of the IE 200 is very fast, and the sound field and imaging are in the first echelon of earphones under $200.

    Rich Accessories

Sennheiser IE 200 provides users with rich accessories. There is a earphone bag in the package, three pairs of silicone eartips (S/M/L) to fit the ear canals of different people. At the same time, IE 200 also provides three sizes of memory foam eartips. Although memory foam eartips will sacrifice a certain degree of wearing comfort, they can be exchanged for better sound insulation.

Sennheiser IE 200 still provides Sennheiser’s iconic Fidelity+MMCX interface. Sennheiser’s MMCX has always had very high reliability, and the bayonet is very strong and not easy to break. At the same time, the MMCX interface is very easy to replace, and it is very convenient to plug and unplug the connector. By matching different earphone cables and eartips, a very rich and personalized collocation can be combined to meet the needs of different people for sound quality.

    Earphone Audition Experience

Adele’s “Easy On Me” is very familiar to everyone, and Adele’s high-pitched voice is very fascinating. Under the interpretation of Sennheiser IE 200, the sound reproduction of this song is very high, and the piano and vocals have a good separation. Adele’s slightly husky treble sounds very transparent and natural. Moreover, when the eartips are in the shallow tuning nozzle position, it can better reflect the ethereal inspiration of this song, and the listening feeling of the song is richer and more three-dimensional.

Dual tuning system makes IE 200 more playable

In the listening experience section above, I tried the new tuning nozzle design adopted by Sennheiser IE 200. By changing the different contact positions between the ventilating front cavity of the earphone and the outer wall of the tuning nozzle, changes in the sense of hearing can be brought about. First of all, if you choose a shallow eartips position, the sound field performance of the earphones will be open. And if you choose a deeper eartips position, it will improve the low-frequency hearing of the earphones – the low-frequency performance of the earphones is more prominent and more cohesive.

The dual tuning system can be said to reflect the unique ideas of Sennheiser engineers. By seemingly simply adjusting the position of the eartips, the earphones can have different senses of hearing, and can switch freely between spatial transparency sense and low-frequency atmosphere sense. As for which eartips position you prefer, it depends on which sound style you prefer.

    Suitable for buying crowd

In terms of positioning, the price of Sennheiser IE 200 is very close to the people, and it is very suitable for people who want to experience Sennheiser IE series earphones. If your daily listening device is a mobile phone, you can enjoy the charm of Sennheiser IE 200 through the audio adapter. Overall the Sennheiser IE 200 seems to me to be an earphones that don’t use the “threshold”. You can easily get good sound quality even if you plug it directly into a laptop or an audio adapter. Sennheiser IE 200 is very suitable for “junior audiophiles” who want to experience high-fidelity sound quality.

Finally, if you want to upgrade your headphones to improve the sound quality and step into the door of high-fidelity sound quality, then this Sennheiser IE 200 is worth a try. Or if you are in contact with Sennheiser for the first time and want to try the music performance of Sennheiser earphones, you might as well start with Sennheiser IE 200.
