After two years, Sony WF-1000XM4 finally came. Recently, some media disclosed the real shots of this product. The appearance design is exactly the same as the previous exposure. The headset, especially the charging case, has been greatly reduced in size and the configuration has also been upgraded. It is expected to be released around June 8.

This time the Sony WF-1000XM4 came to a 360° no dead angle exposure. The earphones continue the bean-shaped in-ear design and the shell is more rounded; eartips uses memory foam by default, which is helpful to improve the sound quality and noise reduction effect; There are three charging contacts on the inside of the earphone and an optical sensor for in-ear detection.

Compared with the predecessor Sony WF-1000XM3, the Sony WF-1000XM4 has a smaller volume. The classic black and gold color scheme and matte texture, as well as the penetration of circular elements, are all characteristic of Sony.

I just don’t know what the design of this small protruding ring is, whether it is a control knob or a wired headset interface, what do you think?

The appearance of the Sony WF-1000XM4 charging case was also exposed. The box cover has a curved design with large arcs on both sides. The USB Type-C charging port is located on the back of the charging case. It may be the same as the WF-1000XM3 and does not support wireless charging.

There is a golden Sony Logo in the middle of the cover, and the bottom of the fuselage shows that the product model of Sony WF-1000XM4 is YY2948, the charging case input is 5V⎓, and the output for charging the headset is 5V⎓140mA.

Let’s take a look at the comparison chart of the two generations of earbuds. The charging case size of the Sony WF-1000XM4 has been significantly reduced, but from this perspective, the headset does not seem to be reduced much.

Moreover, the charging case of WF1000-XM4 does not have the NFC quick pairing label and indicator design, which may be directly cancelled to further save space.

There is also a set of renderings of simulated headphones in hand. This time, I can finally call you “beans” for noise reduction.

In terms of hardware configuration, Sony WF-1000XM4 has successively obtained Bluetooth certification and FCC network access certification. According to the information, WF-1000XM4 is equipped with MediaTek MT2822S chip and supports Bluetooth 5.2. It will support 24bit, 192kHz audio like the previous generation, but the CPU operating speed is low. DSP performs better and integrates active noise reduction technology on the hardware. Whether the headset is equipped with Sony’s independent noise reduction chip is still unknown.

I speculate that the MT2822S chip may correspond to a chip of the Airoha AB156x series, which supports Bluetooth version 5.2, built-in Hybrid ANC active noise reduction, built-in Tensilica HiFi mini DSP, 2MB/4MB flash memory, integrated lithium battery charge controller and power supply Management circuit. But the specific functions should be customized by Sony.

In addition, the earliest exposure of the packaging box information also shows that Sony WF-1000XM4 has passed the Hi-Res Wireless sound quality certification, with a high probability of using the Sony LDAC codec; the headset supports active noise reduction, and the battery life data is headphones 6 hours + charging case 18 hours.

The Sony WF-1000XM3 is priced at US$228.00. If the Sony WF-1000XM4 maintains the same price, what do you think is the competitiveness? Would you still be willing to buy the reduced price WF-1000XM3?
