Sanag Z50S review: Ear-clip design for open listening, directional sound transmission is accurate and clear

Sanag Z50S is the third-generation 360° panoramic sound headset product of the British audio brand Sanag. Like the Sanag A5S Pro air conduction earphones, it also adopts the open-ear design that is not in the ear, but it adopts a smaller and lighter ear-clip design in appearance, and the two earbuds that look like earrings.

Sanag Z50S specs and features:

Design & Comfort

The Sanag Z50S charging case adopts an oval design with the brand logo in the middle of the top. There is a groove at the opening of the charging case for easy opening, and the indicator light is below. The charging interface is located under the hinge on the back.

The earbud is connected to both ends of the earbud body with a back arc design, and the wearing method is ear-clip. The outer panel of earbud is equipped with brand logo and indicator light, and supports touch control at the same time.

After actual measurement, the overall weight of Sanag Z50S is about 65.9g, which can be easily put into the pocket of jeans. A single earbud weighs about 6.5g, making it light and comfortable to wear.

The wearing method of the ear-clip is very novel, and the U-shaped curved arm is clipped comfortably on the auricle. Small and light in size, it won’t feel bulky, and it won’t cause discomfort when used for a long time. When worn, the cavity does not enter the ear, does not close the ear canal, and keeps both ears open. When using earbuds, you can also receive external sound information at any time.

Connectivity & Control

Sanag Z50S adopts Bluetooth 5.2 technology, which has good compatibility, stable connection and fast transmission. When connecting for the first time, just select “Z50S” in the bluetooth device list of the mobile phone to connect quickly. Open the charging case for subsequent use to connect to a successfully paired bluetooth device.

The earbuds are stably connected to the mobile phone within a distance of 10 meters. In an environment without obstacles, the connection will be intermittent if the distance from the mobile phone is more than 11 meters.

The operation of earbuds is also very simple, and the left and right earbuds have separate touch operation functions. Switch songs at will, answer/end calls, wake up voice assistants, and more.

  • Tap once L or R earbud: answer call, play/pause music
  • Double tap L or R earbud: Hang up/Reject call
  • Double tap L/R earbud: Volume+/Volume-
  • Triple tap L/R earbud: Previous/Next song
  • Long press L or R earbud 3s: Wake up the voice assistant

Game, Movies, Calls and Battery Life

With Bluetooth 5.2 technology, the latency of Sanag Z50S is as low as 40ms, realizing the synchronization of audio and video. The experience will be smoother when watching videos and playing games. The earbuds support IPX5 waterproof rating, and can be used with confidence during sports or outings, meeting the listening needs of various daily usage scenarios.

In terms of calls, Sanag Z50S supports DENOISE noise cancellation technology, uses dual-microphone array beamforming to accurately pick up sounds, weakens ambient sounds, and appropriately enhances human voices, thereby improving the purity of calls. The actual test shows that it can effectively filter out environmental noise in generally noisy environments such as community yards and parks.

Using a portable power tester to test the wired charging of Sanag Z50S, the charging power is about 1.37W. The battery capacity of the earbuds is 50mAh, and the battery capacity of the charging case is 400mAh. The overall comprehensive battery life can reach up to 48 hours.

Sound Quality of Sanag Z50S

As an open-ear earbuds, more preparations are required to present a satisfactory sound. Faced with the “leakage” problem of open listening, Sanag Z50S adopts the Pulse DT3.0 directional sound transmission technology. The earbuds will detect the shape of the ear canal, automatically adjust the propagation angle of the integrated sound beam by +25°, and self-adaptive directional sound transmission to ensure that the sound is efficiently transmitted to the ear canal. Make the sound more focused and clear, and avoid sound leakage. The clip-on ear design makes it more comfortable to wear, and at the same time, the sound outlet is closer to the ear hole, and the sound transmission is more accurate.

At the same time, earbuds are also designed through the sound-absorbing inner cavity. Cooperating with the third-generation Sanag-Acavity acoustic structure cavity, it presents a wider sound field and a transparent and natural tri-frequency performance under the synergy of the high-bass dual-unit composite diaphragm and digital sound enhancement technology.

In the actual experience session, I randomly selected some popular music for trial listening. The vocals of the Sanag Z50S are very clear, and the mid-bass is relatively full, with a certain sense of hierarchy. Listening to songs with strong rhythm and dynamic melody like Beyoncé’s “BREAK MY SOUL” will perform better.

Try to listen to Tsai Chin’ “渡口”, thanks to the directional sound transmission technology, the sound is very loud, and it can be heard normally in the park at a medium volume. The bass drum at the beginning of the song performed well. Although it is not particularly surging, it can also feel a certain depth of extension. The vocal part is crisp and clear, and the sound is very clear and melodious. In addition, the sound of musical instruments plays a good role in setting off the human voice, and the artistic conception of classical songs is also well displayed.
