The B side of the notebook is a 16-inch 2560×1600 resolution 165Hz high refresh rate screen, and the screen brightness can reach 500 nits. It supports Dolby Vision, FreeSync Premium screen tear-proof, flicker-free DC dimming and hardware-level low blue light TUV Rheinland certification, covering 100% of the sRGB color gamut.

The Lenovo Legion R9000X 2022 has a high screen-to-body ratio and a 1080P resolution camera in the top center. This high-resolution + high refresh rate screen can fully meet the experience needs of gamers and make the game screen more immersive.

After SpyderXElite’s color gamut test, Lenovo Legion R9000X 2022 covers 99% of the sRGB color gamut, with an average color deviation value of 0.83. This means that even if you are doing art design work, you can still use it.

Lenovo Legion R9000X 2022 is equipped with sunken large-sized keys and a standard-sized small keyboard area, which supports full keys without stroke, and the silicone keycap coating can also be wear-resistant and anti-fouling to a certain extent. The keyboard feels good, the keys are crisp, and supports two-stop white backlight. The power button is independent of the keyboard area, which can also prevent accidental pressing of the power button during daily use. The power button also integrates the function of fingerprint recognition, which makes it faster and more convenient to turn on and wake up the machine every day.

In terms of interfaces, the Lenovo Legion R9000X 2022 is equipped with 1 HDMI 2.1, power interface, and 2 USB 3.2 Gen 2 interfaces on the back of the fuselage. On the left are two USB-C ports that support USB 3.2 Gen 2 and DP 1.4 protocols, and these two ports also support up to 100W PD charging. If paired with the Legion C135 adapter, it supports a maximum charging power of 135W. On the right side of the notebook are the 3.5mm headphone jack, camera switch and SD card reader.

Although Lenovo Legion R9000X 2022 has luxurious processor and graphics performance, it still tries to maintain a thinner body. The 16.9mm body thickness is comparable to some thin and light notebooks. The actual weight of the body is 2.25kg, and the travel weight is 2.82kg.

    Performance Testing

Before conducting the actual performance test, let’s review the hardware configuration of Lenovo Legion R9000X 2022. AMD Ryzen 7 6800H standard pressure processor, using industry-leading 6nm FinFET process, energy efficiency optimized Zen 3+ architecture design, 8core 16thread, full large core design. The maximum clock acceleration frequency can reach 4.7GHz, and the performance release of beast mode can reach up to 80W. AMD Radeon RX 6800S graphics card, 7nm process, new RDNA 2 architecture, 8GB GDDR6 video memory, support up to 90W performance release, dedicated direct connect and SmartShift technology. In addition, it is also equipped with 16GB dual-channel DDR5 memory and 512GB PCIe4.0 solid state drive.

In the CPU profile test of 3D Mark, the single-thread score is 910 points, the dual-thread score is 1764 points, the 4-thread score is 3378 points, the 8-thread score is 5959, the 16-thread score is 7069, and the maximum thread score is 7079 points.

3DMark Fire Strike scored 25968, Fire Strike Extreme scored 12054, Fire Strike Ultra scored 6023, Time Spy scored 8862, Time Spy Extreme scored 4021, and Port Royal scored 4158.

In terms of memory and hard disk, we used AIDA 64 to measure the read speed of 16GB dual-channel DDR5 memory to 50488MB/s, the memory write speed to 54960MB/s, and the memory copy speed to 48212MB/s.

Using the CrystalDiskMark test, the sequential read speed of the PCIe 4.0 SSD is 6692MB/s and the sequential write speed is 4314MB/s.

    Gaming Test & Cooling

For playtesting, I chose “Shadow of the Tomb Raider” for testing. Open the highest special effect preset, the average frame rate can reach 72fps at 2560×1600 resolution. If the resolution is adjusted to 1920×1080, the average frame rate can be further increased to 118fps, and the game experience is still very smooth.

In the “Assassin’s Creed Odyssey” test, the average frame rate was 59fps at very high quality settings and 2560×1600 resolution. The average frame rate at 1920×1200 resolution can reach 72fps. “PUBG” is set to 2560×1600 resolution, ultra-high preset picture quality, the average frame rate can reach 110fps in indoor shootouts, and 140fps during driving is also the norm.

In the “Wolfenstein: Youngblood” test, the average frame rate at 2560×1600 easily reached 121fps. To put it simply, the Lenovo Legion R9000X can fully meet most of the 3A game requirements with its AMD Ryzen 7 6800H processor and AMD Radeon RX 6800S graphics card. For FPS shootout games, it can make better use of the high refresh rate screen to bring a smoother gaming experience.

In terms of cooling, I use AIDA64 for a 30-minute FPU single test. After the 30-minute test, the power consumption of the processor platform is still maintained at 80W, and the frequency of the processor is maintained at about 4GHz. At this time, when testing the temperature of the C side of the notebook, it can be seen that the heating area is mainly concentrated on the top of the keyboard, the temperature of the WASD area will be relatively lower, only 33°C, and the touchpad area is 30.9°C.

In the 30-minute dual-item test, the total power consumption of the notebook can reach 150W at the beginning. With the increase of calorific value, the total power consumption of the notebook is maintained at about 120W after 30 minutes, the power consumption of the graphics card is 72W, the frequency is 1575MHz, and the temperature is 73℃. At this time, the maximum temperature near the rotating shaft was 50.4°C, and the temperature in the WASD area was 35.5°C.

In terms of noise, when the ambient noise is 36.4 decibels, the noise when the notebook is running is 51.2 decibels. The sound of the fan, although noticeable, is within the acceptable range. After all, this is the test peak data under extreme conditions, and there is basically no obvious fan sound in normal use.

Conclusion: AMD hard core blessing, giving gamers one more choice

The biggest selling point of Lenovo Legion R9000X 2022 is the AMD Ryzen 7 6800H standard pressure processor and AMD Radeon RX 6800S graphics card. The good cooling performance allows this notebook to achieve good performance output under high load. The battery capacity of the notebook is 99.99Wh, which, combined with the high energy efficiency ratio of the AMD Ryzen series, also brings longer battery life.

In addition, Lenovo Legion R9000X 2022 also has a 165Hz high refresh rate gaming screen, 16GB LPDDR5 memory, PCIe 4.0 solid state drive, a relatively thinner body and high-quality workmanship are also one of the advantages.
