FIIL Key Pro review: Switch between in-ear and semi-in-ear

Appearance Design and Comfort

In addition to the appearance design similar to FIIL Key, the charging case also designed a large circular transparent window on the top cover. According to the official introduction, FIIL Key Pro is also designed by DESIGN AFFAIRS in Germany. The charging case is small and light, and very convenient to carry. The matte texture material is not easy to leave fingerprints and scratches.

FIIL Key Pro earbuds adopts a long stem design, the touch area is located at the top of the earbud stem, and this area is also designed with an inclined angle to avoid accidental touch. In addition, the earbud stem is designed as a cube, but the corner area is treated with a circular arc transition. After taking off the ear tips, you can see that the sound duct of FIIL Key Pro is relatively short, and the sound outlet is also relatively large.

The eartips are soft and skin-friendly, there is no sense of pressure when worn, and the stability is also good. After turning on ANC, the physical sound insulation and Active Noise Cancellation of eartips will greatly improve the immersive experience. The innovative XS eartips are very practical – FIIL Key Pro can freely change shape (in-ear or semi-in-ear) through XS eartips.

Of course, after switching to semi-in-ear earbuds, you also need to switch to the cloud tuning mode on the APP, so that the sound quality experience can be more suitable for semi-in-ear wireless earbuds.

Connectivity, APP and Control

The bluetooth version of FIIL Key Pro is Bluetooth 5.4 and supports SBC and AAC codec. When connecting for the first time, just select “FIIL Key Pro” in the Bluetooth device list of the mobile phone to connect quickly. When using it again, open the charging case to quickly connect to the successfully paired bluetooth device.

Also, FIIL Key Pro support multi-point connection, which can connect two bluetooth devices. It can be turned on or off in the APP.

After successfully connecting with fiil+ App, you can see the battery level, battery life prediction of earbuds and charging case on the main page of the APP.

In order to meet the sound quality needs of different users, FIIL Key Pro provides 3 different sound effects and 12 EQ presets. Also, we can also do 10 levels of custom adjustments for highs/mids/bass.

In the APP, you can also set the earbuds’ noise cancellation mode, multi-point connection, voice assistant, low-latency mode (music and game mode), and touch control, etc.

The control method of FIIL Key Pro is very comprehensive, and all basic functions can be controlled through earbuds. In addition, the control method can be customized in the fiil+ APP.

Noise Cancellation and Calls

FIIL Key Pro uses dual-feed hybrid active noise cancellation technology, and the official noise cancellation peak reaches 40dB (in-ear). The MAF noise reduction system has 4 modes: Open, ANC, Listening, and Wind noise, and the noise cancellation performance is not weaker than FIIL CG Pro.

The noise cancellation effect after the test is still very good. After turning on the ANC mode, it can filter most of the external noise, especially for car tire noise, engine noise, etc., which has a significant noise cancellation effect. After turning on the wind noise mode, I can hardly feel the wind noise while riding or running. In addition, if you are in a quiet place, it is recommended to switch to the semi-in-ear.

The call quality of FIIL Key Pro is still very good in a noisy environment, whether it is answering or making a call, it is very clear. What I appreciate is the anti-wind noise design of the earbuds – Key Pro has specially added an anti-wind noise convection duct to reduce wind noise during calls. I occasionally call friends by bike, and the call effect is good.

In addition, FIIL Key Pro does not seem to support transparent mode – I did not find the option of transparent mode on the APP.

Battery Life, Game and Video Playback

FIIL Key Pro uses Bluetooth 5.4 technology, and the connection distance and connection stability are good – there is no disconnection or lag during use.

FIIL Key Pro support low-latency mode with music mode and game mode. Playing games and watching videos is no problem – it works flawlessly on both Android and iPhone with perfect sound and picture sync.

The single battery life of the earbud is up to 6 hours, and the total battery life is up to 30 hours. The battery life after turning on the ANC mode is about 4 hours. The charging case can be fully charged in 1.5 hours.

FIIL Key Pro Sound Quality Review

The soundstage is wide, and the separation and positioning are also done relatively well. The mid-frequency is full and evenly distributed. At the same time, the mid-frequency also has a good density, the sound sounds solid, and has a relatively good delicacy.

The low-frequency quantity is sufficient, the extension is slightly deeper, and the rebound speed is slower, which can bring a more obvious strength and envelopment. However, the low-frequency resolution and layering performance are ordinary, with some turbidity.

The high-frequency processing is relatively ingenious, the quantity is not too much, and the density is relatively high, which maintains sufficient extension and transparency to ensure that the hearing is not boring and the overtone is moderate.

The vocal is slightly closer, the sound dyeing is warmer, and the sound line is obvious. It sounds solid, clear, and powerful. Both male and female voices can be restored relatively well.

After switching to the semi-in-ear, the sound quality will deteriorate under the default condition. However, after turning on the “cloud tuning mode” in the APP, the sound quality is not very different from the in-ear. The same song, tri-frequency performance is difficult to hear the gap.
