Appearance Design and Comfort
The appearance of EPZ P50 is a combination of black resin cavity and silver aluminum alloy panel, and the acoustic nozzle is an independently embedded metal integrated nozzle. The transparency of the 3D printed resin cavity is relatively low, and the surface is smooth. The metal panel is CNC-cut from 7 series aluminum alloy, and the surface is anodized silver, which feels very delicate.
Using open CNC metal panel design – there is a large area of hollow structure in the center of the panel, which makes its rear cavity very open. The gap between the panel and the cavity is very narrow, and the workmanship details are worthy of praise.
The earbud cavity has a high degree of fit and fullness. It is very friendly to most people with large auricles, but small auricles may be a little “hanging”. There is no problem with the stability of the earbuds. The nozzle is relatively thick, but it is not difficult to install with the default eartips. The nozzle has two layers of damping and no limit structure. The passive sound insulation ability of the cavity is average, and there is no obvious air pressure balance problem.
EPZ P50 earbuds are ergonomically designed – although the cavity is large, it fits the ear very well, it provides a comfortable wearing experience with the soft eartips. According to my experience, it can achieve a passive noise reduction effect of about 20dB – it can completely block the sound of speaking on the basis of playing music at a normal volume. Plus, there is a slight stethoscope effect – mainly the friction between the wire and the clothes and the friction between the earbud cavity and the ear canal when eating.
Acoustic Configuration and Headphone Cable
EPZ P50 is equipped with a five-unit hybrid architecture of 1 dynamic driver + 2 armature drivers + 2 planar drivers. The bass is handled by a 10mm PEK + PU composite diaphragm dynamic driver; the mids is handled by two customized 32257 composite armature driver; the treble is handled by two customized second-generation micro planar drivers.
All three units have independent ducts, and after combining with electronic crossover, a three-way system is formed – is a relatively standard architecture. The unit connection is well done, and the mid-bass can have a certain imaging ability, but the difference in timbre between the micro planar driver and the mids/bass unit can still be perceived. The impedance is 20Ω and the sensitivity is 106dB (±3db).
The default configuration of P50 is a 6N single crystal copper silver-plated cable, which is braided tightly. The cable is not too thick, but a little hard, and the self-winding phenomenon is slight. The plug and pin shell are made of 304 stainless steel, and the surface is electroplated and polished.
The interchangeable cable system is based on a 0.78mm 2PIN structure, which is compatible with both flat and convex pin cables. The female socket is a single piece, so there is no need to worry about stability and durability. The pins are very tight and remain firm after a period of use. The interchangeable plug is a 4PIN bend structure with a spiral lock. The packaging box is equipped with a 3.5mm single-ended and a 4.4mm balanced plug.
Sound Quality of EPZ P50
Bass: The bass is very solid, and can clearly present the drums and bass lines in the song without being too loose or dull. The bass quantity and texture are moderate, fluffy and soothing, the thickness is controlled, and there is relatively sufficient fullness. The bass extension and elasticity are good. The speed of retraction is slightly faster, and the reverberation is not much.
Mids: The distance of the vocals is moderate, the thickness is just right, the imaging is clear, and there is little burr and grain. The preference between the texture and line of the vocals is slightly biased towards the latter, the prominence of the line will be higher, and the thickness of the texture is controlled and not too heavy. The tendency between male and female voices is not obvious – although I will use P50 to listen to more female voices during this period, there is indeed no obvious tendency. Plus, the transparency of the vocals is very high.
Treble: The connection between treble and mids is very natural, with rich details. The treble is natural, penetrating and powerful. The brightness of the treble is relatively high, but not too sharp or harsh. The extension ability of the ultra highs is OK, and the roll-off is not too early or too fast.
The separation between vocals and instruments is good, and the resolution is outstanding. The dynamic performance is moderate, and the transient is excellent.
Conclusion
EPZ P50 brings me a wonderful listening experience – comfortable wearing, durable and loose soundstage, rich atmosphere shaping and excellent vocal emotion shaping allow me to immerse myself in music while studying and working. It can be said that this is a very adaptable HiFi IEMs.
