Shokz has always been a very influential manufacturer in the professional sports earphone industry. The Shokz OpenRun Pro bone conduction sports earphones, launched in September last year, mainly focus on outdoor sports scenes, and have many upgrades in terms of sound quality, wearing comfort, and battery life. So what is the experience of such a $180 outdoor sports headphone, is it suitable for you who love outdoor sports?

    Shokz OpenRun Pro

Why do you need a professional sports headphones?

When exercising outdoors, most people choose to wear headphones and listen to music or radio podcasts to relieve boredom. Yes, normal headphones can do it too, but not so well. First of all, there is no need to say more about the restraint of wired headphones, and true wireless earbuds are also easy to fall off during large movements, or there is a hidden danger that sweat flows down the earphones into the ears and causes inflammation. I have also personally experienced wearing true wireless earbuds while exercising, and finally sweat corroded the charging contacts of the earbuds, causing the earbuds to fail to charge.

In short, ordinary headphones are definitely not a suitable choice for sports enthusiasts. More and more sports people prefer professional sports headphones.

How was your Shokz OpenRun Pro experience?

Relatively speaking, professional sports headphones represented by Shokz OpenRun Pro will not have so many small problems to interfere with your exercise state. First of all, from the appearance design, you can see that the OpenRun Pro is an open-ear design to wear, which can effectively prevent sweat from flowing into the ears during exercise, and avoid ear soreness when wearing headphones for a long time. However, the wearing method of the open-ear design also faces two problems. First, the overall weight of the headphone should be well controlled, otherwise it will still be exhausting. Second, the weight distribution design of the earphones should be reasonable, otherwise the earphones may not be worn stably during exercise.

    Shokz OpenRun Pro

How does Shokz OpenRun Pro solve these two problems? The first is that the body is made of titanium alloy, which ensures a lightweight body and high resilience. In addition, the size of the two sides of the earphone is also reduced, and the center of gravity is fine-tuned, which reduces the falling feeling of the earphone. The body of the headphone is also wrapped in skin-friendly silicone. It turns out that the wearing performance of OpenRun Pro is really good. My head is relatively large, but I don’t feel collet after wearing it for a long time. The moderate elasticity is very comfortable, the overall falling feeling of the earphones is very light, and the earphones are very firm during exercise, so there is no need to worry about the possibility of the earphones falling off due to too much movement.

Sound quality has always been the biggest weakness of outdoor sports headphones. After all, it relies on bone conduction to make sound, how can we improve the sound quality? In fact, Shokz’s previous products have also been trying their best to upgrade the sound quality. For example, the previously released OpenMove uses the Premium Pitch 2.0 technology, which can make the sound waves generated by the headphone have opposite phases inside and outside, so as to achieve the effect of phase cancellation and sound leakage reduction.

    Shokz OpenRun Pro

Shokz OpenRun Pro uses the self-developed Shokz TurboPitch acoustic technology. It can bring a more three-dimensional and fuller full-range sound experience to the headphone. This is not enough, OpenRun Pro also uses a low frequency enhancement unit, which can deepen the power of the bass.

According to my own experience, the first impression of Shokz OpenRun Pro in terms of sound quality experience is quite pleasant. If you don’t distinguish carefully, you may not imagine that this will be the sound quality of a bone conduction earphone. Of course, I wouldn’t say it beats wired headphones or anything like that, but it’s definitely one of the best in its class. For friends who love sports, the music during sports is more to set off the atmosphere. I think the performance of Shokz OpenRun Pro in terms of sound quality can definitely satisfy the target group. In fact, for me personally, I use this earphone to listen to songs every day, and I also feel that the sound quality is completely acceptable.

    Shokz OpenRun Pro

So will there be sound leakage? After actual measurement, adjust the volume of the headphone to about 60% in the office. When there is air-conditioning noise and human voice communication, the sound will only be heard at a distance of about half a meter, and the specific content cannot be heard clearly. So if you wear this headphone for voice calls, you don’t have to worry too much about privacy leakage. In addition, Shokz also equipped the OpenRun Pro with dual MEMS microphones. At the same time, there is smart recognition of CVC algorithm, which can eliminate some noise and echo to achieve better radio effect.

This time Shokz also provides Shokz App for OpenRun Pro. This app is very simple and provides two more practical functions for the headphone, one is the sound effect mode, and the other is dual device connection. The sound effect mode provides a standard mode and a vocal mode, which are suitable for listening to music, listening to podcasts, and novels with vocal-based scenes respectively. However, when I actually listened to it, I felt that the vocal mode was more like reducing the effect of other dubbing, in order to highlight the performance of the vocals. Dual device connection is to connect the headphone to two devices at the same time to achieve seamless switching between multiple devices. Through this function, we can also see that Shokz designed the OpenRun Pro as a headphone that can also be used every day.

The Shokz App also provides the functions of switching songs and adjusting the volume, and there are not many scenes that need to be used. After all, the Shokz OpenRun Pro’s earphones can quickly switch songs on the left and adjust the volume quickly on the right. You don’t need a mobile phone to adjust the volume or switch songs during exercise.

Shokz OpenRun Pro also has a fast charging function, a magnetic charging method, and you can listen to songs for about 90 minutes after charging for 5 minutes. A full charge takes about 1 hour, and a full battery life can be close to 10 hours. And even if the headphone is out of power, charging for a few minutes will provide enough battery life for the day’s sports scenes. In addition, Shokz OpenRun Pro supports IP55 dustproof and waterproof, which can meet the needs of most sports scenes.

    Shokz OpenRun Pro

Conclusion: This is a bone conduction sports headphone that allows you to run and listen to music with confidence

For friends who love sports, Shokz OpenRun Pro can be said to be a good solution to the problems that ordinary headphones may use when exercising. And in terms of the relatively weak sound quality, OpenRun Pro has also significantly improved with its self-developed acoustic technology. In addition, Shokz also specially created the Shokz App for it, which shows the dedication to this product. As Shokz’s flagship bone conduction sports headphones, I believe Shokz OpenRun Pro can let you listen to music with confidence when exercising outdoors.
